14 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | NOVEMBER 2020 | We welcome November with cooler weather (hopefully!) and with it we have a better idea of which plants made it through the heat, and which ones haven't. At our meeting in October, our committee found many plants that were in need of replacement, because of the extraordinary heat. Even some of our hardiest plants have struggled. The committee members are identifying these plants as well as stressed grass areas to either reseed, or in rare cases, resod the grass. Parts of our community are now 16 years old. With that comes the challenge of maintaining and repairing our irrigation systems for the common areas. In some cases, we will be discussing whether to repair or replace parts of the irrigation systems. We are discussing fine tuning watering schedules, and identifying potential areas that may be considered from moving from a "spray" system, to a drip system. All of these discussions are within the context of a budget, and what we may be able to do within a given year. As we identify a plan and solutions to irrigation problems, we will write about this in our monthly article. This maturing of our community applies to plants and trees as well. The committee is evaluating on a regular basis, if a tree or plant is dying, should it be replaced? And if replaced, with the same or new tree or plant, within our community's plant palette? We work collaboratively with Artistic on landscape design and their recommendations for addressing plant and tree replacement. As November is the month for Thanksgiving, we want to thank: 1.) Artistic Maintenance staff and workers who are very responsive to our community requests around Landscaping issues; 2.) The Committee members who donate their time to ensure our community has a "five star" look, and bring their expertise and experience to the table every month to troubleshoot problems and 3.) Maria Donti for her preparing of materials and her participation and enthusiasm for our monthly meetings. On behalf of the Landscape Committee, we wish everyone a happy, healthful and safe Thanksgiving! The Landscape Committee meets the first Wednesday of the month at 1 pm at the Lodge. Residents are welcome to attend. Landscape Committee Facilities Committee This has been an unusual year (to say the least) for all of us. Planning for future events has been difficult and challenging. The Facilities Committee during this time has continued to meet twice a month (via Zoom) to discuss current issues and future plans for maintaining and improving the Four Seasons community. One such improvement is the installation of two benches along the Paseo in the East Legends. They will provide a nice spot for residents on those long walks to take a break and rest, or just sit, relax and take in the beauty of our community. With the holidays approaching, there is hope and joy to look forward to. Once again, the main entrance to Four Seasons, the Lodge, and the Gazebo will be decorated for the holidays (with white lights instead of the colored lights used last year). In addition, the World Cup entrance and guard house are being "dressed up" with lights, garland and a Christmas tree. This is being done by the Christmas committee who also does the interior of the Lodge. Another improvement is the installation of bird spikes on the lighting structures on the tennis and pickle ball courts. This will eliminate the unsightly bird droppings on the court surfaces. With the shorter days upon us, the lighting along our walkways is being studied to determine where additional lights could be added to eliminate dark spots. Also, the bollard lights in the East and West legends are being replaced as they have begun to fail. There are future projects being considered. However, some of these have been tabled until we know more about how and when we can resume full use of our facilities. Best wishes for a festive Thanksgiving with your families and friends.
