CLUB NEWS 24 | THE COLONY NEWS | NOVEMBER 2020 | By Marsha Tobolski, 562-244-9223 The holiday season is rapidly approaching and we can almost smell the turkey roasting and the pumpkin pies baking in the ovens! We are continuing to plan our events for 2021. The Annual Meet & Greet is tentatively scheduled for Monday, Feb. 8, in the Lounge from 5 to 7 pm. This is a time for anyone interested in the Players Theater Group to find out about us and get to know each other, and hopefully, join us. No experience is needed to join and, best of all, refreshments will be served. We welcome new members throughout the year who would like to participate in a number of ways in our Variety Shows. Our first show is tentatively scheduled for May 2021 and our one-night-only production of One Act Comedy Skits is planned for October 2021. The Players are working on all aspects of the Variety show and Comedy production and look forward to once again presenting entertaining shows for our community with the talented people we have here in The Colony. We will have more definite dates and details in the December and January issues of The Colony News. We wish you all a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for despite the long months of the pandemic. Good times are ahead! Players eater Group By Kathleen Brown, 698-5244 Colony Cousins Genealogy Club is pleased to announce that our virtual meeting will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 1 pm. Members will be emailed more information a week before the meeting. You will need a computer or smart phone to participate. If you are not a member and would like to participate, please email Kathleen Brown at pookiedook4@ gmail.com. Our presenter will be Kathleen Fernandes. Dr. Fernandes has her doctorate in Educational Psychology and spent her career working as a systems analyst. After retirement, she actively researched her Portuguese roots and became interested in genetic genealogy. She is a well-known speaker in southern California on DNA and has spoken at conferences sponsored by the Institute for Genetic Genealogy. Dr. Fernandes' presentation is titled "I Tested My DNA - Now What?" She will provide a step-by-step guidance on how to approach the analysis of autosomal DNA testing results. Topics covered will include testing strategies, confirming relationships to family members tested, verifying the branches in your tree, identifying "surprise" cousins, and addressing brick walls in your distant ancestry.
