Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! It has certainly been a long road, but each new day brings hope; the guidelines are easing up, somewhat. This month brings us to Veterans Day on Wed., Nov. 11 and the typical plan of an Abravanel Hall Celebration will, of course, be postponed to 2021. The Recreation Department would like to invite all residents to pay tribute to our Village Veterans by tuning into Channel 1960 at 11 am. Our AV Tech, Anthony Scalise, with the guidance from Resident Donna Russell, will be showing past Veterans Day performances and continuing all day… or most of the day. Additionally, there will be a couple of short clips (three minutes) every once in a while. We invite you to take a walk up to Inspiration Hill, on the day of, in memory of those who served. Staff plans to have carnations, at the foot of the walkway, to recognize a loved one or friend, by placing a flower at the top or on the personalized memorial bricks. Our thanks to all our resident veterans, their service and to all of those currently serving. Our thanks to those who participated in receiving their Flu Shots. We had over 165 appointments. The SERT Club and Securitas assisted with traffic flow and we so appreciate the help. Shred Day sponsored by Securitas was welcomed; after many months of trying to keep busy during the pandemic, there were many members who had time on their hands to clean out their storage of files. Thank you to Securitas. The Drive-Thru Food Drive, sponsored by the SERT Club, showed the generosity of the OHCC community and the willingness to help others in the county. Thanks goes out to all! Staff continues with taking reservations for the pool, Bocce, Fitness Center Rooms, and an occasional tour of the Clubhouse. Be sure when placing a reservation to click on the refresh button on your browser, remembering to cancel if you are unable to attend, and recognize the system will only allow making reservations one week in advance. Water Volleyball and Aqua Exercise have started up again. We will, hopefully, bring back the Pop-Up Services. The Village Dance Troupe is holding outdoor classes on the Croquet Court and the Golf Club is starting up, again, their competitive tournaments on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. The Transportation Services continue twice a week and the ridership is increasing. The Pop-Ups are coming back and that is great news for many who have looked forward to the Monday cuisine. Save the date of Tues., Dec. 15 for the Annual Holiday Golf Cart Parade. Hey, things are looking up! We are so excited to see that there is light at the end of this long and dark tunnel. On Nov. 2, Ramon Vidrio, our Facilities Supervisor is celebrating his 30-year anniversary of service to the OHCC community. Ramon came to work the graveyard shift 11 pm to 7:30 am, cleaning the Clubhouse in the wee hours of the morning, and being promoted after four years to the swing shift. He tells us that at that time he would bring his first-born son to work because he could not afford childcare. Ramon has kind of been the staff goodwill ambassador over the years. He has such an easy-going manner and rarely gets his feathers ruffled. After being raised with seven sisters, he knows when to speak and when to hold his tongue, always with a smile. Congratulations to Ramon! We appreciate all your efforts and dedication to the Clubhouse and its membership. May the beginning of this holiday bring you joy, peace, and a thankful heart! Happy Turkey and All the Trimmings Day!
