Theatre Arts
12 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2020 |
The Clubhouse renovations are complete, but
room assignments are not yet being considered. As
we've stated before, it all depends on the government
regulations vis-à-vis COVID and staff availability. Members
will be informed of any programming by email, as events come
up. All in-person performances are on hold until the powers-that-
be allow for it once again. Know that the Theatre Arts Club stands
shoulder-to-shoulder with (and six feet apart from) the staff and
residents to keep each other healthy.
Actors' Workshop and Readers' Theater have ceased gathering in
public. They are, however, open for new members. For information,
please contact Sally Benton by phone at (602) 228-7541) or email
moki2@cox.net. Members only!
Theatre Arts started a new "Play Readers Theater" group in order
to provide our talented actors a venue to perform and an audience
to enjoy entertainment via Zoom. The group is open to any paid
member of Theatre Arts club and is different from the Readers'
Theater, led by Sally Benton (see above). Anita Simons leads Play
Readers Theater which, so far, has 14 members. The group will meet
virtually via Zoom. The members of the new group will choose a
play and cast from auditions attended by the group members. The
cast will then rehearse with the goal of a Zoom presentation to all
Theatre Arts Club members.
To bring you up to speed, auditions were held, and the first play
will be an original comedy written by Anita
Simons specifically for OHCC. The title is The
Leisure Set and is about a mother and daughter
living in an active senior community. Due to economic
necessity, the pair needs to take in roommates to cover
their expenses. The cast includes Valerie Thompson, Maureen
Schneider, Dee Wardell, Sunny Griffin, Joe Ashby, Ros Nesler and Jody
Gorran. Only Theatre Arts Club members will receive a link to view
the show. This is another reason to join Theatre Arts now - and your
$10 membership is good through December 2021.
General meetings are usually held the first Monday at 7 pm in
Abravanel Hall. Please check your email for exact location, date and
time. Only members will be informed of upcoming events, whether
live or via Zoom.
Join Theatre Arts so you can participate in all our entertainment
and activities. Leave your $10 check in our envelope at the front desk
when the Clubhouse reopens. Until then, our Board members will
gladly accept membership checks or you can contact Cathy King at
gertandcathy@hotmail.com for details on how to join. NOTE: All
dues paid now are good through December 2021!
Check out our new and improved website, where you can read
