54 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2020 So, as we bid a (not so) fond farewell to 2020, the Pickleball crew continues to focus on the positives like goodwill, friendships, fun, strategy, dinks, and upcoming possible tournaments. Toward that end, the months of September and October were focused on an Event called Rock the Relish, a weekly event consisting of various socially distanced, costumed, masked events for which players received points. When all was said and done, the ultimate winner who "Rocked the Relish" was Kellie Boggs, with Karen Rose and Janelle VonKleist finishing in 2nd and 3rd place. Winner of the clean joke contest was Marty Key (the prize being that her joke got to be published in the Breeze) with the following: why are fish never good pickleball players? Answer: They don't like getting close to the net! Bonus points were awarded for turning in an essay on your favorite pickleball moment and Perry White summed up the philosophy of the club with his entry: "It has been my privilege to help a number of people with their pickleball game. My favorite moments come when someone sees the bigger picture and plays with a renewed desire to improve their game. My best moment came when Nancy Barnaby invited me to play with better players and I then became a better player myself. I try in turn to do the same for others. Seeing others enjoy the game so much is one of the great passions of the game known as Pickleball." In closing this year Chris Ingram added this, "My favorite moment is every time I show up to play. It's like being Norm on the old Cheers TV show because 'everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came.'" So as we close 2020 and look with optimism toward 2021, come on down to the most beautiful pickleball courts in Riverside County here at Four Seasons and join in the friendly competitive camaraderie every morning from 7 am. Beginner classes and skills sessions available as well. Check the board right outside the courts for updated times or contact Nancy Barnaby at (951) 845-0842. See you on the courts! ~ Julie Stayner, (307) 413-1237 Pickleball Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time.
