| OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2020 | 27 Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time. Happy holidays to one and all. It is hard to believe that we are now in month 10 of Covid-19. For many of us this year, there will be no exciting holiday travels to visit with family and friends for special celebrations together. We will have to make different memories. Hopefully, you will be able to share celebrations with loved ones via Zoom or Skype. Being able to see happy, smiling faces always brings us joy and comfort. In the spirit of the holidays, we would like to recommend that you visit the website of ABC's "Great Christmas Light Fight." This is a weekly contest which features the home transformations of four families that were selected through a nationwide search based on elaborate Christmas light displays, choreography, and extravagant designs, and each week a winner is announced. The website included below features videos from previous years. These home displays are like those at the Mission Inn which has been a favorite Travel Club trip. Despite the on-going effects of COVID-19, ABC has announced that there will be a 2020 season which we should be able to watch on ABC at 8 pm every Monday, starting Dec. 9. https://abc.com/shows/the-great-christmas-light-fight We are hopeful with the new year there will be some fabulous trips and wonderful adventures to share. Until we can be together again, we wish you all good health, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! Your Travel Club Board, Judy Harris, Donna Wessel-Graham, Lynn Opelka, Callie Dean, Judy Buoniconti. Travel Club We tasted some wine on a trip to Italy some years back. We visited Tenuta Le Velette, a winery near Orvieto, while on a Rick Steves tour. The winery has been in business since 1877 and has a beautiful sprawling old mansion. The owners, who live on the property, give tours to groups at the winery, and from their patio you can see the beautiful city of Orvieto. Tenuta Le Velette is part of a region where the Etruscans developed their method of winemaking. 2,500 years ago, they dug deep cellars in the tufa soil that have temperatures which are perfect tor the fermentation and storage of white wines. This legacy technique persisted in the area until about 70 years ago. Many of these aging cellars are still being used on the estate today. The area was neglected during the rule of the Romans, who defeated and drove out the Etruscans, but some traces of their construction remain. During the middle ages, the estate was owned by noble families who lived in the town. The main building became a residence towards the end of the 17th Century. In 1815 the property was donated to the Society of Jesus, who expanded the estate, adding two side wings and some outbuildings. The property was expropriated from the Jesuits in mid 19th century and was owned by the city. In 1877 it was sold to the family that currently owns it. Most of the land was used for tenant farming. In the 1950s the vineyards were established and in the next decade Tenuta began to bottle and ship new wines to ever more distant markets. When we visited, we had a selection of fresh locally made appetizers and a tasting of wines chosen to pair with the food. One of the appetizers was cold pizza. It's hard to explain, but cold pizza with a pesto sauce on paper-thin crust is wonderful – if you have the right wine. Tenuta Le Velette wine can be obtained on- line (Vivino.com, timelesswines.com). The Wine Tasting Club is open to all residents. Dues are $12/year, but 2020 dues will roll over to 2021. Due to the pandemic, we cannot gather as we normally do, but some groups are having virtual tastings. Wine Tasting Club
