Horseshoes for Fun Calling all horseshoe players. We have started a Horseshoes for Fun Club, which will be meeting at the horseshoe pits every Wednesday at 3:30 pm. We will be playing until approximately 4:30 pm. No need to bring horseshoes. We have two sets at The Lodge and one set purchased by a private party. This is a great way to make new friends and get a little exercise in the fresh air. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Ron Erickson at (951) 846-3288, rejlerickson@sbcglobal.net or Gary Christie at (951) 9419100, goldtoy@earthlink.net. ~ Ron Erickson Bocce Ball Interest Group We had 26 participants at our first session of Bocce Ball. We had a few experienced players but many had not played before. The players new to the game were surprised at how easy it was to play. From first time players to experienced, everyone enjoyed themselves. Because of the great turn out, an additional play day was added. We play for approximately one and a half hours so if you want to have fun, please join us and bring a friend. We will play Tuesdays at 9:30 am and Wednesdays at 3:30 pm. For more information, call Janet Burns at (951) 922-3013 or Bob Cooper at (951) 769-6352. No experience is needed to play so come and join the fun. ~ Bob Cooper 4x4 Seasons We were treated to a special day on April 17, as Trail Boss, Steve Meier, led the way at Lytle Creek. We traversed the ridge route for five miles, then dropped down into the wash only to climb once again and picnic just below the snow level of Mount Baldy. The views were spectacular, the weather was great and the off roading outstanding. Thanks Steve for all your hard work in arranging this trip. As the weather gets hotter, the day trips to the desert areas will be limited. Any suggestions for trips in the summer months are welcome. Lytle Creek and Big Bear have been discussed but no firm dates set. Firearm Enthusiasts Steve, Dennis and I made a trip to the High Desert Rod & Gun Club in April. When we arrived, we found that there was a .22LR rifle shooting match. Steve was able to enter and try for a trophy. However, the other contestants were using very expensive, custom LR match target rifles with 50 power scopes. It was obvious that Steve was out gunned, but he still did pretty well without having the opportunity to sight in his firearm. There was a father and son, age 12, team that consistently got 10s in their matches. In fact, the son took second place with score of 198 out of 200. This was a lot of fun and we will arrange another trip soon. I hope some of you were able to take advantage of the Norco Sport Fair, May 31 to June 2. Firearm ownership is a very responsible process of training, safety and familiarity with your firearms. Take the opportunity to practice at least once a month to maintain your skill level and familiarity with your firearms. Remember to save your targets if you want an evaluation. If you need a shooting partner, check on the roster and make a call. This is a good way to meet your fellow enthusiasts. Meetings are the first Friday of the month at 4 pm in Lodge Ballroom. Contacts: Ron Morgan (951) 3150466, e-mail: ronm627@aol.com, or Steve Meier (909) 528-3342, e-mail: sm45para@gmail.com. Reminder: No firearms allowed on the Lodge premises. ~ Ron Morgan Future trips include Death Valley Feb. 3 to 10, 2014. Come for a day or two and stay at the hotel or in your RV. Hotel rooms are available at Stove Pipe Wells. George Johnson is the Trail Boss for this event and has researched the area to provide us with fun and interesting adventures while we are there. A trip the first weekend in March 2014 is planned for Terra del Sol, which will be held at Ocotillo Wells. March will also include a trip to Calico for off-roading and visits to the Ghost Town. Trail Bosses for these trips will be Rick and Jamie Brower. Discussion of a Utah trip in September 2014 to visit the National Parks has peaked a lot of interest. More information will be provided at a later date. October 2014 has the club going to Coyote Canyon with Greg Dash as Trail Boss. Greg has done this trip and promises we will enjoy the outing. As you can see this group is very active. We welcome any resident to attend our meeting and see if this club is a good fit for you. Our next meeting is June 11, at 7 pm in the Ballroom. Hope to see you there.
