SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | JANUARY 2021 5
By Sherrie Chaparro, Resident
As you know, the HOA has ceded
control of our neighborhood's
streets to the city of Hemet.
As a result, the city now has
responsibility for street sweeping
and trimming the parkway trees.
The city has made us aware
of a regulation which prohibits
property owners from topping,
pruning, trimming or spraying
the parkway trees. They have
instituted a tree trimming schedule
and recently came through and
trimmed all the parkway trees.
If you wish to do additional
trimming, you must contact the
Public Works Director at the
Parks Division (951-765-3712) for
permission. To do otherwise may
result in a citation from the city.
Dear Fellow Residents:
The City of Hemet is proud of its national status of Tree City U.S.A.
The City is responsible for maintenance of approximately 30,000 trees within the city rights-
of-way. These trees are a valuable asset to the city. An acre of young trees produces enough
oxygen to keep 18 people alive and every 100 foot width absorbs 6 to 8 decibels of sound. Trees
also lower air temperature as they use the sun's energy to evaporate water in their leaves.
It is important that citizens realize the significant contribution trees make to our community
by watering and caring for them. City trees are located in rights-of-way, easements, parkways
or other public areas. The protection of city trees is important and there are ordinances that
govern their protection.
The City of Hemet municipal code states:
Section 66-96
(a) No person shall remove, trim, prune, spray or cut any above or below ground portions
of any street trees in a right-of-way or easement without first obtaining permission from the
Public Works Director.
If you have any questions, feel free to call the Parks Division at (951) 765-3712.
