SERT CLUB Your Safety… Your Responsibility - How Can SERT Help? 6 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2021 | By John Slayton, SERT Club President By the time you get this copy of the OHCC Living magazine and read this article the year will be finished, and for most of us it can't come too soon! With the end of the year, comes the beginning of the new year and with that comes the traditional and time-honored New Year's resolutions. If you're having a difficult time thinking about your resolutions –SERT (as always) is here to help. To begin the process, please answer the following 10 questions. 1. Do you know how to find the emergency broadcasting channel on the radio? 2. Do you have at least one app on your cell phone that provides emergency alerts? 3. Have you prepared an Emergency Supply Kit (your "Stay Box") with supplies like water, food, and medicine that is kept in a designated place in your home? 4. Have you prepared a small kit (your "Go Bag") with emergency supplies that you keep in your house, in your car, or where you work to take with you if you had to leave quickly? 5. Have you made a specific plan for how you and your family would communicate in an emergency situation if you were separated? 6. Have you established a specific meeting place to reunite in the event you and your family cannot return home or are evacuated? 7. Have you practiced or drilled on what to do in an emergency at home? 8. Have you volunteered to become a SERT Neighbor Helping Neighbor Street Captain to help prepare your neighbors to respond to a major emergency? 9. Have you taken the recommended Red Cross first aid training? 10. Do you or a family member belong to the OHCC SERT Emergency Response Team? If you answered YES to all, then congratulations - no need for resolutions as you are PREPARED to help yourself and others. However, if you answered NO to some, then now would be a good time to add them to the top of your resolution list. It's actually not as difficult or time consuming as you would think. SERT recently distributed the Disaster Ready Guide to all of OHCC, and by taking a few minutes to review and follow the guidelines and instructions your Emergency Preparedness Plan will essentially be completed! Congrats – you've now narrowed your list down to just a few! Looking for a stocking stuffer? We still have a few guides left that are yours for the asking; just email us at ohccsert@gmail.com and we will actually deliver. The SERT Club Board of Directors would like to wish all of you a very safe holiday season. We have big plans for 2021; why not be part of it – join today! By Scott Lemieux, CPS Director Greetings OHCC residents and staff. November and December were yet again opportunities for Community Patrol to provide support to a number of important events within the community. The month began with supporting a second Shred Event that was sponsored by the HOA management team, which enabled those residents that weren't able to participate in the initial Shred Event in October to take full advantage of that service. Community Patrol was also privileged to provide support to the Veteran's Day parade within the community. Thank you again to Mr. Joe Ashby and Ms. Chris Bessey for coordinating such a wonderful display of patriotic pride and honoring the service of the large veteran community within OHCC. The asphalt repair project that took place during most of November also required CPS to adjust our access control procedures and provide support throughout the community to residents that required special accommodation due to the extensive work that was required. Thank you to OHCC's Maintenance Director, Greg Johnson for coordinating and working with CPS to minimize the logistical impact that was inevitable with a project of this scope. Thank you also to the residents for their patience and flexibility in having to adjust to changing traffic patterns and access into the community. A reminder regarding the rules and regulations specific to the golf course: a bag tag is required to be visible while playing on the course. It is not enough to simply have the tag; it must be visible to Community Patrol officers as they are conducting periodic patrols of the course. If a golfer is found without a visible bag tag they will be cited for a violation. Secondly, bag sharing is not permitted at any time. If it reported to CPS or a CPS officer observes this violation the resident will be cited for a violation. Due to COVID-19 precautions, guests are currently not permitted to play on the OHCC's golf course at this time. Please abide by these rules and avoid a citation for violations of the rules and regulations. CPS prefers compliance to citations and if there are any questions please feel free to call the Front Gate for clarification. Community Patrol Services
