golf Cart Club
The Holiday Golf Cart Parade that was held
on Fri., Dec. 18 was a smashing success! I must
admit that I had some misgivings about going
forward given the pandemic but, in these trying
times, I thought that everyone could have used
a little holiday cheer. We stressed wearing
masks and social distancing, and the turnout
(both by the spectacularly decorated carts and
the enthusiastic residents lining the route) was
overwhelming.
Thanks to the Golf Cart Club elves for the
extra exterior Lodge holiday decorations
that added to the festive atmosphere. Lots of
people contributed to its success, and I would
like to thank those who marvelously decorated
their carts, those residents who provided lots
of enthusiasm, the Board for their support,
Tracie Rodgers for all her hard work, the Social
Committee for their co-sponsorship, Dave
Cometa (who traditionally leads the parade),
David Rau (who plays a great Santa), Cecil and
Debbie Frazier who were Santa's chauffeurs,
and Linda and Rick Adkins (who have helped
year-round-see their photo). The special tree
on Harrington Court was a big hit on the route.
As always, I appreciate their continued support.
As I have pointed out before, the flag angels
are the men and women who place flags in front
of each of the 1,200 houses in the community
and the main roads (over 1,500 flags) on six or
eight special days. Sadly, a few of the flag angels
have reached a point where it is becoming
physically difficult for them to continue. Don
Sims, one of the original angels, must hang up
his wings. Don is also my backup for Golf Cart
Club/flag angels, and I will continue to rely on
him in that capacity; and he thought that he got
rid of me. Carrie Stephens has stepped up to
take Don's route; she has been an angel in the
past (you hush, Jay). We continue to need some
volunteers to provide backup when one or more
flag angels cannot perform their duty on one of
these days. If you can help with this popular
and valuable service please call me (951) 325-
8757 or email at mikemcla43@aol.com, it would
be most excellent. ~ Mike McLaughlin
