| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | FEBRUARY 2021 | 13
I can't believe it's already February 2021. Like the saying goes "Time flies when you are having
fun." Being on the Landscape committee is fun, interesting and challenging.
Of our many projects this year, one of the biggest projects was how do we cut down on the expense
of tree trimming 900 trees every October. Is it necessary to trim every tree (except pines which are
trimmed every three years) each year whether they need to be trimmed or not? With the help of
our landscape maintenance company, Artistic, the Landscape Committee came up with a proposal
to trim only trees that need to be trimmed in any particular year. It was proposed, that if possible,
a third of our pine trees, be trimmed once a year, and assess and trim those trees that had been
trimmed annually, to see if they need it. This will cut the expense of our tree trimming
contact by a third. Also proposed by Artistic, was the creation of a spreadsheet listing
all of our trees which will be tagged with a number, kind of tree, height and width
of tree, when planted, trimmed or replaced. This information will be maintained,
added/or changed, by Artistic, with a monthly record to Maria Donti. The way
the trees are trimmed was also changed from wholesale cutting of branches
to a much nicer trim. They will be "laced" which make them look trimmed
and still look good. These proposals were sent to the Board and approved at
their last meeting in December. As of this writing, you have probably noticed
that the trees are being trimmed. Other projects are annual color change,
mulch replacement and replacement of dead and dying plants in the Legends and
common areas.
The Landscape Committee meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 1 pm at The Lodge.
Residents are welcome to attend. Due to changing rules about holding meetings in The Lodge,
please check with Maria Donti about how the Landscape Committee is meeting monthly.
