28 | OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2021 | Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time. Racquet Club The key word for February is "Flexible." There are a lot of balls in the air, pun intended, in this new year and we have been flexing to the ever-changing conditions. Both COVID-19 tier fluctuations and the court renovation project modified how, when and where we play tennis, paddle tennis, and pickleball. The Racquet Club board applied member survey results to shape the revised guidelines for play and is keeping members informed with email blasts, refreshing the website, and postings on the court bulletin boards. At the end of the project in spring, we all will enjoy premier sport facilities right here in our own back yard. You can keep up with the latest by visiting https://ohccracquetclub. wixsite.com/racquet Another flex already in 2021 is with the club's officers and committees. Herb Livsey stepped away from the role of president, however he will remain involved with Rob Schoonover on the HOA's court renovation project. Vice president Ann Rike has taken over the active day-to-day leadership role acting as interim president of the Racquet Club board. With the myriad changes, Ann and the Racquet Club board are nimbly working to keep courts accessible to all OHCC residents and helping members navigate the changes to play. Committee Chairs for 2021 are now in place – thanks to our volunteers for stepping up: Social Committee Co-chairs Laura Urban and Pele Pyle; Membership Chair Sharon Sorensen; New Member Greeter Felicity Swerdlow; and Sunshine Chair Donna Ryan. A casualty of COVID restrictions, water volleyball players have not been able to dip their toes in the water for awhile. Ever the optimist, Charlie Payne continues to volley regular emails to interested splashers, chock-full of comedy and peculiar oddities that always bring a smile. Amidst all the change, we continue to attract newcomers. Treasurer Sid Saltzman reports 385 members signed up for our badminton, paddle tennis, pickleball tennis and water volleyball sports in 2021. A note about dues – those who paid dues in 2020 will have their racquet club membership automatically rolled over to 2021. You can welcome newbies by arranging a match using the website's available players list – like Nigel Nelmes who brought his tennis game from Laguna Niguel, and picklers Sharon and Lloyd Doyle from Long Beach, Patty and John Waterman who split their time between OHCC and Flathead Lake, Montana, and Vicki and Rich Komisarek from Newport Beach then Encinitas. As our members have demonstrated time and again, we are a most congenial club even when curtailed by COVID. We're all in this together and we all benefit when we comply to the Safe Reopening Plan and current state health code regulations. If you have feedback, send an email to ohrchelp@gmail.com or talk to a board member. Who knew playing paddle and pickle singles would be so fun?
