12 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2021 | Sun Lakes Advisory Committee Reports We are happy to see more Advisory Committees submitting articles about the important work they are doing in Sun Lakes. Our goal is to have all active Advisory Committees share their news here each month. Thank you in advance for everyone's participation! Library Advisory The Main and North Clubhouse libraries are closed due to COVID. We anticipate this schedule continuing at least through March. The South Clubhouse is open, books are available and may be returned there. Books, puzzles, and audio books are available on the front patio of 5354 W. Pinehurst. Please do not "dump" boxes of newly donated books. Fiction or biographies published 2011 or later may be left on the South Clubhouse shelving or patio. Call (951) 267-3650 with any questions or concerns. Residents interested in serving on the Library Advisory Committee or shelving books for one half to one hour once a week, or as a substitute shelver when the libraries reopen, please call the above number or fill out a volunteer interest form at the Main Clubhouse reception desk. Communications Advisory The Restaurant & Lounge Advisory Committee is back in action after being dark for a few months. We had our first meeting of 2021 on Feb. 2 and we're excited for the possibilities this year. Here are some of the ideas we're hoping to put into play when the Restaurant & Lounge is fully open for service: • Extending the hours during the week for food service and bar service • Keeping the restaurant open 7 days a week • Offering mid-week specials and/or monthly specials • Offering Happy Hour liquor prices • Re-opening the lobby bar and integrating the library… think pub bar • Installing permanent, infrared heaters on the veranda Of course, all that is months into the future, but with the changes in the COVID restrictions, we are hoping to see our veranda open soon. It's still winter — Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on Feb. 2, which means we're in for six more weeks of winter. You'd never know it with the fabulous weather we've been having! But that is part of the reason we are still closed. The other part, as always, is labor costs. The restaurant continues to hold its own thanks to all of you. The Curbside Pickup and Delivery services are going well. These services are set to continue even as we move forward into fully reopening. As we get ready to open the veranda, we will be bringing on new staff members who need to go through orientation and training — you know the drill — and then hope that Mother Nature doesn't decide to hit us with a round of cold winter weather. The heaters are projected by mid to late March, which will definitely help, but it will still be cold out there! We're as eager to get our veranda open as you are and want to be sure we do it in the most efficient and cost effective way. Give us a couple of months. Between the staff 's hard work and California's edicts, we will be dining out there soon. Restaurant & Lounge Advisory The Communications Advisory Committee held their first meeting of the new year at the end of January. The main order of business was to welcome new members and elect our new Board. Our committee now consists of: Lee Stone, Chair; Marcia Gold, Vice Chair; Doug Deans, Secretary; Bob Murri, Channel 97 Administrator; Judy Garthwaite, Lifestyles Committee liaison; Patricia Elevi, Recreation Committee liaison; Steve von Rajcs, Marketing Committee liaison; Jack Sidwell, Master Board liaison; Elise Campbell, Recreation Director; and Jason Ewals, Assistant General Manager. We thank Larry James for his leadership over the last year and his ongoing support. We remind you that you have many ways of receiving information here at Sun Lakes. The Lifestyles magazine is delivered monthly and is a great resource for finding important club and group information, phone numbers, vendor ads and articles from our various representatives. Every other week Sun Lakes Life is also delivered with more important news of our little "village." Facebook and website users can find almost daily posts on the pages Sun Lakes Country Club and Good Day Sun Lakes. We also do our best to keep Channel 97 updated with current information and you can sign up for eBlasts which will send important news directly to your email. We look forward to another exciting year of continuing to enhance communications between the Master Board, Administration and all residents.
