Spotlight on Angela Nunez For some time, The Colony
News has featured articles about the work of some of our
quilters. Those of us who've attended the Craft Fairs know
there are a number of other types of crafters living among us.
With this issue, we will begin featuring some of these residents,
beginning with Angela Nunez.
Angela's skills include sewing and quilting, but her crafts
we've chosen to highlight are scrapbooking and greeting cards.
Angela ventured into scrapbooking in 2007 with the wedding
of her daughter. Initially she had a Sizzix machine, which
cuts both paper and fabric, but to increase her options, she
purchased a Cricut. Soon she was making other scrapbooks,
including small ones from scratch using heavy cardboard,
while others she bought and personalized, transforming them
into works of art. With her greeting cards, she added moving
parts to some of them.
She uses a variety of skills for her crafts, but one of her favorite
things to do is coloring, for which she uses a combination of
alcohol markers, pencils, ink and acrylic paints. Due to drying
time, some cards and small scrapbooks may take one to two
days to complete. She has sold some of her work.
Angela calls herself, "a horribly messy crafter," but the
pleasure of working the crafts easily outweighs the cleanups.
Before COVID and for several years, Angela had been leading
the twice-monthly Craft Day for All (see the Activity Calendars,
p. 30). She hopes to resume these sessions when possible.
