30 | THE COLONY NEWS | APRIL 2021 | By Sharon Smith The RV Club's first unofficial trip of the year to Yucaipa Regional Park was a huge success! This popular camping spot lies at the foot of the San Bernardino National Forest. With two new families joining some of our regulars, we numbered 16. Sunny days filled with a variety of activities, followed by crisp evenings with the whole group bundled up and sitting around three propane fire pits made for a perfect week. As always, making new friends was a highlight. Day activities included challenging treks to the top of a nearby hill by Lisa Schrader and Shawn Furrer, or for most of us, just a leisurely walk around the three lakes, where we watched a few people fishing. A few of our group tried their hand at that sport, but sadly, no fish were caught, thus no fish tale! A new sport for several of us was frisbee golf. We watched a few more experienced players, and then thoroughly enjoyed playing eight holes while improving our skills. We had so much fun that we agreed we needed to try the Frisbee Golf Course across from The Colony. Other daytime activities included biking, geocaching, metal detecting, dog walking, and competitive games like Farkle, using big dice and a bucket, and cornhole. Of course, some enjoyed taking naps and visiting with friends. Mike and Nancy Adam hosted Happy Hour and Rani and Scott Ross provided evening games of Left, Right, Center and Shut the Box at Judie and Gerry La Pierre's campsite. Judie and Rani were our two big LRC winners, and Rani and Laurie Freres won Shut the Box. Scott passed out song sheets and led us in singing "That's Amore" as we swayed back and forth, then we all joined in with motions to YMCA! A few uninhibited, brave souls danced to some songs from the '70s. We did not care what the neighbors thought. The laughter we shared reminds me of the Proverb: "A cheerful heart is good medicine," something we can all use during the times we are living in now. The last day found us exploring the Oak Glen area. At Moms Country Orchards, some of us enjoyed a warm cup of apple cider. Later we enjoyed lunch at Apple Annie's Bakery, followed by hands-on time with the animals in the Animal Park. The few shops that were open allowed us to satisfy our need for shopping, and of course indulging in SWEETS! If these kinds of events sound fun to you, then please join us on one or more of our official trips which start in April. Please contact Leo or Karen Alonzo at (714) 458-3957, or Nancy Adam at (760) 954-6515 for trip sign-ups. RV Club By Bonnie Graham, 619-889-6770 Since things are looking up, we are still hoping to have our annual "Meet & Greet" on Monday, May 10 in the Lounge from 5 to 7 pm. We supply the food and libations as a thank you for joining us. So, come on down; we would love to get to know you and have you get to know us. We will share what is in store for our October variety show, "The Colony's Got Talent, Sock it to Me!" It is going to be a hoot! Players eater Group
