48 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2021 | Table Tennis/Ping Pong Okay, so I'm beginning to sound like a broken record - NO NEWS is NOT good news! That's what I've got. After talking with Elise in the Recreation Department, I can only report again that there is no discussion about reopening the clubhouses for indoor activities like table tennis. This information was given to me on March 4 knowing this article had to be submitted by March 6. Bottom line is if Riverside County moves out of the purple category, the situation could possibly change. If that were to happen, I will send an email informing members of the change. Until then as always STAY SAFE & STAY HEALTHY! This is being written the first week in March. Currently, 34 teams are playing in our second 'Fun Run'. We have two more weeks to play. We have no idea what we will be able to organize for the spring. If we're still locked down, another 'Fun Run' is a possibility. Stay close to your computers! Many of the members playing the 'Fun Runs' have mentioned how much they like the current format: two members from each team at one end of the court and the other two at the opposite end. Each of the pair throws two balls. No changing of ends until one team gets to eight points. The referee keeps the score, so there is minimal interaction of players. It works well. All players wear masks. We're giving some thought to continuing this format if or when we can get back to competitive bocce again. It's certainly easier on those with less mobility! Stay tuned. Questions, call Dutch at (951) 845-0392. Friends of Bocce Friday mornings, 9 am in the North Clubhouse. Cost is only $5 per week (or $20 per month). Tai Chi (Tie-Chee) is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Originally developed for self-defense, Tai Chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that's now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. Often described as meditation in motion, Tai Chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. The tradition of Tai Chi dates back to at least the 15th century in China, and the practice is based on the belief that balancing the opposite forces in the body (known as yin and yang) will encourage the flow of chi (energy) through the body to promote health. You may also find Tai Chi appealing because it's inexpensive and requires no special equipment. Tai Chi can be done anywhere, alone or in a group class. If you're looking for a way to reduce stress, consider Tai Chi and join fellow Sun Lakers in developing strength in balance, stamina, and flexibility. Info, Dee Coughtry, (951) 381-4919.
