"With each sunrise we are given a chance for a new beginning!" There is adequate evidence that May is poking its head around. We relish the beauty of the flowering trees and flower beds. What a boost during this long quarantine! Again, we continue to be of service to this community. The usual services continue: sending cards, making phone calls, etc. If you are new to this community, grab a Caring Connection Card at the front desk in The Lodge. Team Sunshine's services are listed. We are hoping that, as other restrictions are lifted, Team Sunshine will be able to meet and plan our focus for the coming months. Recently, our Activities Director (Tracie Rodgers) asked Team Sunshine to help host a COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic in The Lodge Ballroom. There were approximately 300 who received the vaccine. Celebrations/Memorials: We were saddened by the passing of Bob Scales. His wife, Kay, requested a bio and picture be placed in The Lodge. It was a privilege to assist in this loving gesture. Our condolences go out to Kay and her family. We have also been notified of the passing of Andres Nalus and former resident Karen Fire. We have reached out to both families. We are not always aware of all passings in Four Seasons. We extend our heartfelt condolences to those families who have the burden of a loss in their family that we are not aware of. We can't say it enough how important it is to let us know if you have a neighbor or friend here in Four Seasons who may be struggling with the isolation. Send a note or call us and we'll get the info to our Card and Phone teams. We often do receive feedback telling us how much a card or a phone call was appreciated. Prayer Requests: For those wishing prayer, a prayer request box has been provided in the Multipurpose Room for your convenience. If you have a request, prayer cards are provided. The cards are picked up weekly and your request will be filled. Marietta Ruppaner collects prayer requests and emails them to members of the prayer team. When COVID-19 restrictions in Riverside County are lifted, the prayer team will resume meeting in person. If you are interested in joining call Marietta. Closing Thoughts: "Ask yourself: Have you been kind today? Make kindness your daily modus operandi and change your world." - Annie Lennox 18 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2021 | Team Sunshine Healthy Living As you grow older, you go through many changes, and you may need to adjust your lifestyle for healthy aging. Healthy eating and regular physical activity can be keys to good health at any age. Making suitable lifestyle choices may also prevent some health problems, such as diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers. Health tips include: • Select high-fiber foods like whole-grain breads and cereals, beans, unsalted nuts and seeds, deeply colored vegetables (like green beans), and fruits. • Avoid fried foods. Choose broiled, grilled, or boiled options instead. • Drink vitamin D-fortified low-fat or fat-free milk; milk products; or non-dairy soy, almond, rice, or other drinks with added vitamin D and calcium to help keep your bones strong as you age. • Drink fluids throughout the day. You may feel less thirsty as you get older, but your body needs fluids to stay healthy and keep you regular. If you have a bladder control problem, check with your doctor about what, how much, and when to drink liquids. • Ask your health care professional about whether or how you can safely become active or increase your physical activity. • Pick physical activities that you enjoy and can do on your own or with a friend or group. • Stay connected with family, friends, and your community. Learn what you can do to stay healthy and fit for yourself and your loved ones! The Healthy Living Team is meeting in The Lodge on Wednesdays at 9 am. Location is either Multipurpose Room or Ballroom. If you have any questions about our program contact Dave & Karen Tuvim at (626) 710-7163.
