May can be considered to be another transition month, when our temperatures begin to rise and the swimming pool becomes more inviting. It also marks two significant holidays, Mother's Day and Memorial Day. It's interesting to note that the woman who started the campaign for an official Mother's Day, later lobbied to have the holiday removed because of large scale commercialism. Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May. We honor and mourn the military personnel who have died to keep us free. In addition to family gatherings and backyard barbecues, one way to pay respect to our fallen heroes is to visit a national cemetery. Located near us, Riverside National Cemetery is the largest and busiest cemetery managed by the National Cemetery Administration. It has more than 280,000 memorials. Last month we reflected on our history at Four Seasons. This month we focus on current events. By now we should be enjoying more activities, socializing with friends, and looking forward to California opening its economy. The key to all this has been the vaccinations. We now have a new Board of Directors. We thank all the candidates, who are willing to volunteer and donate their time to serve our community. Board members share a responsibility to put Four Seasons' best interests first and to take pride in this special place where we live. In the next few months, the Board will focus on four main issues: (1) Budget - We will prepare a five-year forecast of expenses and their impact on future budgets; (2) Fire Mitigations - We will work with the Emergency Preparedness Committee, the city of Hemet, and key county/state departments to assess what can be done to reduce our fire hazards; (3) We will form an ad-hoc committee to review our Rules and Regulations. As a side note, this month we will count the ballots to find out if the CC&R and By-Laws Revisions have been accepted by our residents. Much time and energy was devoted to update and revise these documents. We urge those who have not returned their ballots to do so; (4) We will work with the Facilities Committee regarding future street repairs. Our goal is to develop short term (one to three years), medium term (three to five years), and long term (five to 10 years) plans. In closing, we want to welcome our new residents to Four Seasons. Since January 2020, 106 homes have new owners. This equates to about seven per month. We encourage our new neighbors to "get involved." Take advantage of all we have to offer! Help us maintain our excellence. It's important to remember in an HOA like ours that we all share a responsibility to abide by our rules, regulations, and guidelines.
