| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JUNE 2021 | 11 I enjoy moving about Four Seasons and appreciate the plants and trees that are part of the landscape; they are one of the things that make this place special. Our community is special because of the landscaping. All you have to do is check out other communities to know that we are unique in the sheer number of trees and plants that grace our streets and homes. The Landscape Committee is always concerned that our trees are properly maintained. Professional pruning is one of the most important items that should be done on a regular basis to ensure their health and protect our investment. Some trees such as the Sumacs and Pines on Four Seasons Blvd. and World Cup require more thinning on a regular basis. Others such as Crepe Myrtles need considerably less pruning and thinning. This leads me to concerns I have in observing trees in private yards. I recognize that homeowners maintain their landscape as they choose, however, I have seen some trees that are cut back severely, serve no horticultural purpose and at a cost that may have been unnecessary. Severely cut trees can suffer any or all of the following: • The sun may damage to the interior of the tree. • Insects can take advantage of the sun damage. • The tree no longer provides cooling shade. • A change from the natural shape intended for the tree. • Weak branches will follow as the tree grows back. We are showing two pictures of Palo Verde trees. The first tree has been severely pruned. The second tree demonstrates a nicely pruned tree. Trees increase the value of your home and a value to our entire community. When trimming and pruning your own trees, our Committee recommends that you locate an experienced tree trimmer who can combine the art of tree trimming and the science of tree health and what pruning is designed to do. The difference in cost is well worth it and the trees and your neighbors will thank you. The Landscape Committee meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 1 pm at The Lodge. Residents are welcome to attend. Please check with The Lodge about any restrictions in attending the meeting in person. Landscape Committee
