FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2021 49
Bereavement Group
As I stated last month, the Bereavement Group is now "open" and
we are meeting in person in The Lodge. And as great as it is to be
looking at real faces and talking directly to people, it still feels odd.
This feeling of strangeness does not occur only at Bereavement
Group meetings. I notice it in every gathering in which I participate.
I know I'm not the only one. I think it's because we haven't been
able to communicate the way human beings normally do for a year.
Do you know that about 80 percent of human communication is
below the conscious level? We're used to reading body language,
seeing facial tics, and using all the myriad ways we have developed to
"know" each other. (At least we don't sniff!)
And for a year, the best we could do, and thank goodness for it, was
to meet on a computer, iPad, tablet, or phone screen. And I've gotten
used to it.
The old way feels weird. As I mentioned in yesterday's meeting,
I'm grieving a little for what feels familiar. And if you're feeling the
same way, don't be discouraged. This too shall pass. Big grief or little
grief, if you acknowledge it, live with it instead of pushing it aside
or running from it, talk with others about it, and keep walking the
path in front of you, you will arrive at a place where life feels more
comfortable. It won't be the same, but it will be ok.
So if you are struggling with loss and would like to be with others
who will welcome you and share with you and light the path ahead of
you, please come join us. We meet at 3:30 pm in The Lodge Ballroom
on Monday.
