FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2021 59
Fishing Club
Filling in for Richard this month is Terry Miller. Here is his story…
I have fished at Hemet Lake three times and never even had a bite. Two
weeks ago, they stocked 2,000 pounds of lightning trout and golden
trout in the lake. My fish finder showed lots of fish, even though we
were fishing from shore. None of us even got a bite. Yesterday was
senior fishing day and boat rentals were 50 percent off. So the four of
us rented a pontoon boat at a cost of $23 each plus $10 for a fishing
ticket. We are all seasoned expert fishermen. Yesterday we looked
more like the "Three Stooges" plus one. Just about everything that
could go wrong, did… except for the boat capsizing. We tangled
each others line multiple times, got our lines wound around the prop
and had the oldest of us (78) climb out on the transom and cut the
line off. Too many snags on rocks and hidden tree branches. I also
lost my line twice in the prop and somehow while we were bouncing
along the choppy waters, my Eagle Claw vintage rod and Garcia reel
fell out of the boat. No one even saw it happen. It just disappeared
without a trace. As far as fish was concerned, there were fish all over
the lake. My fish finder often showed 20 -30 fish bunched up along
the shoreline. Not a single bite. We used night crawler worms, power
bait, bass lures, Panther Marting lures, and mouse tails. All in all, it
was a fun day. After all, they call it fishing, not catching. ~ Richard
