Our Sun Lakes Follies Board Members are ready to put this year's theme "Sun Lakes Does Vegas" Show in full motion. Please mark these dates on your calendar: Fri., Oct. 1 at 7 pm, Sat., Oct. 2 at 7 pm and Matinee Show Sun., Oct. 3 at 2 pm in the Main Clubhouse. Our first general meeting last month brought out many people who signed up for various Vegas acts, singers, dancers, and comedians. We also met those who are willing to lend a helping hand behind the scenes. If you are new to Sun Lakes and have a talent or variety act, come to our meeting on Thurs., June 17 at 1 pm at the South Clubhouse. We would love to meet you! How many times have you been watching TV when suddenly a commercial comes on with a familiar song? Most songs used in commercials are very well-known songs. These songs help consumers remember the products and are worthy of your talents at one of our Karaoke events. Here is a short list of some of the songs and the products they were used to promote. The first song on this list ("I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing") was written as a commercial and then rewritten as a hit song because of its popularity in the early 70s. It's the exception to the idea that the song was a hit first then used for a commercial later on. The rest of the songs in this list were hits first then later used for commercials. I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing by The New Seekers, The Hillside Singers. Coca-Cola Heard It Through The Grapevine by The Temptations. California Raisins Be My Baby by The Ronettes. Cialis Beyond The Sea by Bobby Darin. Carnival Cruises I Walk The Line by Johnny Cash. Levis Welcome Back (Welcome Back Kotter Theme) by John Sebastian. Mylanta Billie Jean by Michael Jackson. Pepsi-Cola These Boots Are Made For Walkin' by Nancy Sinatra. Pizza Hut Help by The Beatles. Lincoln & Mercury At Last by Etta James. Cadillac, Applebee's, State Farm Insurance Almost all of these songs used for commercials have been sung by some of the people who have joined us for our Sun Lakes Good Times Karaoke with Rosie Ingalls, Barb Miller and myself D.J. Blast. It looks like our days of quarantine are numbered and before too long we can enjoy our Karaoke sessions again. We will inform everyone when that will be once we get the word from the folks in charge of events at Sun Lakes. Until then…we will keep a warm, clean, disinfected microphone on for you. Karaoke Group Chorale The Chorale of Sun Lakes looks forward to meeting again this year. As soon as possible, we hope to have a "How the Heck Have You Been" party as a reunion for our membership. We're also working to have a "Coffee With the Chorale" event soon in the Main Clubhouse with table seating and limited singing. We hope to start up again in January 2022 to prepare for our annual Spring Concert. To maintain our connection as a Chorale family, we meet via Zoom every Monday morning at 9:30 am. We sing together and talk to our friends. Interested residents are welcome to join us. We have room for 100 guests. You can sing in this men's chorus or enjoy a quartet experience with three other guys. We all have a song in our hearts waiting to come out.
