| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2021 | 31 Finally, the pandemic is slowing in California and Sun Lakes classes are resuming. Many of us have added a few extra "COVID-19" pounds. However, the International Dancers of Sun Lakes (IDS) have the perfect class to get us started moving, stretching, and becoming more active as we awake from the past year's slumber. Donna Kissling and Victoria Simenton have begun teaching belly dance again with relaxing, mindful-based, and gentle stretching. The dance routines activate the body core, and strengthen the center of gravity, as well as improving balance. They teach low-impact, weight- bearing dance suitable for mature ladies. The muscle-isolation and stretching improve flexibility, and the moves are beneficial to the spine, abdominal muscles, arms, and legs. The classes are gentle on the knees, maintaining easy-going movement for the body. Dancing with chiffon veils helps build upper body strength. Hip movement strengthens hips, legs, and the long back muscles. By joining IDS for a small fee of $30 a year, ladies of Sun Lakes are welcome to attend the Thursday classes at 5 pm in the North Clubhouse. Belly dance classes are free since they are included in IDS membership. Donna and Victoria are also available for performances, parties, and other events. For information about belly dance call Donna Kissling at (951) 282-1087. "Let's get up, get out, and start moving to the rhythm of exotic music and dance, with joy and freedom from a year of isolation," Donna says. "Come join us!"
