| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2021 | 5 So you think you are doing great obeying the rules and regulations? Let us start with the golf cart brigade. When you drive a golf cart you are bound by the same rules and regulations as any vehicle. You should stop at stop signs and obey the speed limits. Some of the newer golf carts are speeding 25 and 30 mph on our streets. Most of the golf cart drivers think the stop signs are for cars only. The city of Banning enacted an ordinance to allow golf carts from either side of our complex to get to the other side. You must use Gates 3 and 4 unless you have a "street legal" golf cart. Moreover, if you do not have a "street legal" golf cart, you are not allowed to drive on Sun Lakes Blvd. Nor are you allowed to drive to Albertson's to go shopping. You are never allowed to drive on the sidewalks in our community or on Sun Lakes Blvd. In our complex, golf carts are like automobiles; stay on the right hand side of the street and obey all of the traffic rules. If you drive at night, your golf cart should be equipped with head lights, turn signals, tail lights, and a horn. Golf carts are manufactured for two people unless there is a back seat. Two or three of your grandchildren should not be riding with you in your cart. Unless they are 16 years of age and have a driver's license, they should not be behind the wheel. Apparently, some people have a terrible time parking on our streets. They either park on the sidewalk or are a couple of feet from the curb. Parking should be carefully done since our streets are very narrow unlike the normal city streets. When submitting an application to the Planning Department, ask for help on the paperwork. Many of the applications are short on information. The Department needs details to get a complete picture of what you are trying to accomplish. If you are pouring concrete in the backyard, they need dimensions with square footage to be poured. Details on what kind of plants and where are they going to be planted. Details make your application more understandable, more fitting for the rules and more apt to be approved. Signatures are important, but make sure your neighbors are aware their signature is not an approval of your project; it means they are aware of what you are trying to accomplish. Is all of this necessary? Of course it is! We live in a wonderful gated community. How do you think it got this way? We have achieved the goal of a marvelous community because we have had most of the rules and regulations since the first home was built. Relax and enjoy the lifestyle and be thankful for discovering Sun Lakes and making it your home. DISTRICT DELEGATE ASSEMBLY REPORT By Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly
