Birdwatchers
Our ducks have migrated to new areas in preparation to produce
offspring. Before their journey, mating pairs could be seen at our
local lakes and lagoons. It was this time when a male could be easily
distinguished from the female, as the males molted to have brighter,
more colorful feathers. When the ducks return in the fall, the males
will be in what is called "eclipse plumage," which means the brighter
feathers have been replaced by dowdy brown feathers that are female
like. Birding then will be a bit challenging to distinguish male from
female. We look forward to seeing the Cinnamon teals and Redheads
return next spring.
Note, the Birdwatchers Club will have to disband unless
someone comes forward to be the Club President.
You do not need to know any birds. Please call Jane Johnson at
(419) 215-1814 to volunteer.
