Swim, Surf & Wellness Now that the summer is here, it is the perfect time to "take the plunge," get fit, and enjoy all the health benefits of swimming. Whatever your age, shape, or size. Swimming is the perfect all-over body workout, that with regular practice will improve our major organ system in our body, including our brain and nervous system. Swimming: 1.) Improves cardiovascular fitness - increases stamina and overall heart and lungs fitness. 2.) Increase's flexibility – the movement of swimming allows the joints to be free-moving and remain supple. 3.) Increase's strength – muscle tone improves. 4.) Changes your body shape – our body becomes firmer. 5.) Helps to heal injuries – the impact-free nature of swimming provides greater healing and rehabilitation especially after muscle pulls or joint strains. 6.) Burns more calories – the use of many muscles at a time when doing laps increases metabolism and therefore, helps to contribute to weight loss. 7.) Stress and tension are reduced – it allows us to unwind and relax. 8.) Chronic lower back pain is typically reduced – the gentle impact-free body movements help to ease the pain. 9.) Swimming is one of the best exercises after surgery – once you can go back into the water, moving the major muscle groups post-surgery can speed up the recovery process. 10.) Is a great exercise for seniors who have never learned to swim – Its never too late to learn to swim to improve your health and well-being. So, go, take the plunge, and reach out to our SSW Club instructors if you need to learn to swim or improve your strokes!
