| OHCC LIVING | JULY 2021 | 27 Art Room Judy Harris and Lainy Vinikow welcome you to visit the Art Studio to see the first exhibit in over a year! Our Photography Club accepted the invitation to show in January 2020 and has been waiting patiently to display some of their talents for your enjoyment. Meanwhile, this month's story and beautiful art are from one of our local artists, Bonnie Krichbaum. Bonnie and her husband, Fred, married in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she was working after graduating from Texas A&M University, and he was in training to be a Navy pilot. They moved to California, lived in Alameda for a few years, and then lived in Pleasanton, CA. Bonnie says: "We had deep roots in Pleasanton where we lived for 47 years with our three children. We loved our Victorian home that we had restored to its original beauty. I taught school and became a real estate agent. Fred was a pilot with United Air Lines, and we both were very active in our community and church. For a few years, four generations of our family lived there within a few blocks of each other; but in 2012, we found ourselves without family in town and decided to buy a home in OHCC, near our son and daughter and six grandchildren. In 2014, we moved here permanently and put down new roots, really delighted by the friendliness and fun here in our new community. Very quickly I found an "artsy" group, painted watercolors every week, and joined the Oceanside-Carlsbad Art League. I have been an artist for most of my life, studying art in college and in a variety of classes and workshops, using watercolors, acrylics, colored pencils, pastels, and mixed media. I exhibited in shows at wineries, banks, restaurants, corporate centers, and galleries and won ribbons and awards including a Silver Award and a Public Favorite Award at the Alameda County Fair. I just try to enjoy this wonderful pursuit of happiness and hope others gain a bit of pleasure from sharing it with me. Since I struggled with cancer at a fairly young age, I try to live my life to the fullest, which includes painting, drawing, and appreciating art and beauty in all forms. As an artist, and as a traveler, I love to keep memories alive through paintings, which I create from photos and sketches. As I look at these pictures, I have many of the same feelings I experienced when I first saw these sights and remember some of the best times of my life and many of my favorite places. Thank you for viewing my work, and I hope all art gives you the same happiness it does to me."
