Racquet Club If you are new to Four Seasons, have played tennis in the past or have always wanted to get into the tennis hunt, we have good news! Two residents are now providing an avenue to burnish those former skills or to start as a total newbie. Irve Sturner is overseeing a growing band of "yellow ballers" on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays following men's 3.5 play around 10:30 am. Barb Miller started this as a way of enhancing stroke performance and conditioning and now we have six to 10 at each session, varying their court positions to obtain the full roster of shots: forehands, backhands, volleying and lobs. Randy Fedorchuk, a USTA Recreational Coach, is also volunteering and providing tennis instruction for all on Wednesday's beginning at 5 pm. These one-hour weekly drills focus on a specific skill set. So from warm-ups, to instruction, to practice as well as some interactive play to integrate the evening's focus. We very much appreciate Randy's desire to reach out to our tennis members with his complimentary lessons. The best part for you is that these are FUN sessions, without competition, designed to "realize the dream" in a supportive atmosphere. So dust off your racket and we'll see you on either Randy's or Irve's court, or better yet, both! Have you noticed the little touches that are enhancing our tennis experience? The HOA has recently installed new umbrellas with stronger bases and material that allows for wind flow-through to avoid tipping, two benches were added Ping Pong Club If you are like a lot of people, you probably played ping pong when you were a youth. But now you don't think you could play again. WRONG! Our newest member, Ruth (pictured), is living proof that you can get back into the game you played in bygone days. When Ruth moved into Four Seasons a few months ago, she knew she wanted to start an exercise program. However, she wanted an exercise that not only improved her physical condition but was fun at the same time. Remembering that she had played ping pong many years ago, she decided to give it a try. At first it was a struggle for her but Ruth was persistent and steadfast in her efforts to regain the skills she had as a youth. Now Ruth is playing very well. She is still learning new skills and improving one game at a time but she is our most improved player. She accomplished her goal. She is getting the exercise she wants and she is have fun doing it. 38 on the shady side of court #2 (yeah!), and metal guarding has been placed on our light standards to deter our otherwise welcome birds. Later this year, there are plans to clean, paint and re-stripe our courts — any ideas on court colors? Quickies: We had a full plate on Memorial Day weekend beginning with our Play Day on Saturday, hosted by Jo Fedorchuk. A perfect turnout of a dozen players, just enough to keep the courts occupied but leaving only a few on the sidelines awaiting rotating play. On the Monday holiday itself, it was non-stop tennis beginning at 7 pm sharp and going to noon with all levels of competition and both singles and doubles. Welcome to Richard Carrasco, our newest member! There are reports that he's an awesome server. Welcome back to Romy Villena, one of our original 3.5ers who's returning following eye surgery. Don Cummings has had what we hope is only a slight misstep in his rehab back to the tennis wars. If you haven't made plans there may still be time to join our 4th of July festivities. This will be our second annual "Blue vs. Red" doubles competition with a trophy for the winner! A program and refreshments will follow in the Lodge. Want absolutely the latest FS tennis info? See you on the courts! ~ Ken Elliott Ruth believes that if she can do it, you can do it. So come out and play ping pong with us. We play Monday through Friday at 10:30 am and Saturday at 11 am. Get the exercise you need and have fun doing it.
