Ballroom Dance Club What do you think Ballroom Dancing is? Snooty? Difficult? Exclusive? Bending and twisting? Dancing with the Stars? Well, that's not at all who we are or what we do. We mostly do social dancing. We don't compete, we don't try to impress, and none of us are professional dancers. We're just regular folks having fun dancing to a wide variety of music. On Sept. 19, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm, we will have our first ever Fall Fling, a dance that is open to the community and featuring the live band Rainbow Cottage. We'll have Swing, Latin, Rock, Country, Foxtrot, Line, Waltz and Pop — something for everyone. To cover the cost of refreshments and the live band, there will be a nominal charge of $10 per person. So put this date on your calendar and join us for some informal dancing fun. More information will be posted later. Questions? Call Puring and Gary Stifter at (951) 922-8333, or at purings@verizon.net. ~ Willis Fagan Line Dancing Do you think you that you have two left feet when it comes to dancing? Do you think why try to learn, I don't think I can do it? Well, line dancing may be for you. At your first lesson you learn at least two basic dances that are done everywhere. You will learn one step at a time. This type of dancing allows for a lot of variations; the dances are not choreographed. If someone is doing something slightly different, but still moving in the same direction as everyone else, it is okay. After you learn a few dances, you realize other dances have the same steps arranged differently. So, if you have been thinking of giving line dancing a try, come on out. As we age, we need to do things that challenge the mind. Dancing is brain training as well as foot training. Dancing improves memory, coordination, concentration, and improves self confidence. It is also great exercise and burns calories. Dancing gets you out of the house and adds laughter and new friends. Come watch or give it a try. Class is every Tuesday; beginner's from 3 to 3:45 pm and advanced from 3:45 to 4:30 pm. Any questions? Call (951) 769-3889. ~ Martha Franck 30 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2013 | clubs & Groups Heart and Soul Line Dance Dance schedule: Wednesdays 4 to 5:20 pm, Beginners; 5:20 to 6 pm, Intermediate. June was spent reviewing dances we haven't done in a long time. Starting with what we have dubbed "the trilogy," a combination of the Electric Slide, the Tip Toe Slide, and Soul Hop, we worked our way through some Gumbo Soup, Piece of Cake, Dancing in the Dark, and Good Time arriving at some of our more recent dances Baby Work Out, Breeze, Broken Stones, Old Bones, Rock That Party, and Rose Garden. And as always, we never get to cover all the dances we've learned, but what great fun we had! I love to dance. I have been dancing since I was a little girl. Music and dance was part of my culture. I cannot remember a time when there wasn't music in my home. Growing up with two brothers and a sister one of us had music playing, finding us many times dancing while we did chores. In the neighborhood, music could be heard coming out of our neighbors' apartment windows and people sat outside with the radio going. Summer nights were spent dancing in the streets. It was a natural part of my growing up. We used music and dance in everything — even at funerals, music and dance were a form of celebration; it relieved the pain we felt as we mourned for the life we had lost. It's impossible to cry and be unhappy while you dance. I cannot imagine my life without music and dance. And what better way to share my joy and passion for dance than to share it. We are so lucky to be living in a community like Four Seasons where there are so many who are willing to bring you the joy of dance. Ballroom, Zumba Gold, Country, Old School, Heart and Soul all are here to bring you a sense of enjoyment, not to mention the health benefits. So next time you want to have some fun, meet some great people, of just watch how much fun we have on the dance floor, come to one of our many dance get togethers. I guarantee you will be hooked! As always, see you on the dance floor. ~ Priscilla Robles Old School Dance Join us in the Ballroom the first Friday of each month, from 6 to 8 pm, to dance to 50s Rock and Roll, Motown and beyond, including some Jazz and down home Blues.… and it's a great workout! It's not a contest and you don't need a partner to have fun. Join us for a couple of hours on the dance floor and celebrate good times with a relaxing beverage or snack… or buy something from Smitty's and bring it in. Join your fellow residents, new and old alike, who like old school music and enjoy learning new dances. Info., Willa Harris, (562) 3074978. ~ Willa Harris
