All Seasons RV Club As I told you in my last article, I am reporting on the May RV trips. I don't even know where to start because they were so much fun. A big round of applause for our Wagon masters, Dorothy and Steve Meier for Paso Robles, Nancy and Ron Morgan for the Healdsburg portion, and Rick and Jamie Brower for the Elks Stampede in Santa Maria. About five rigs left earlier than others for Buellton, which was a "non wagon master trip." The campground we stayed in was Flying Flags, which is a beautiful park. Some of us had Mother's Day dinner at A.J. Spurs and others went to the Hitching Post. Charlie and I ate at A.J. Spurs. It was very good, and from what I understand the Hitching Post is one of the best also. We spent one day in Solvang, and that was lots of fun browsing and shopping We met up with the rest of the group in Paso Robles. There were 11 rigs. Most of the RVers went wine tasting, which was one of the highlights of the trip. A couple of the women went shopping of course (LOL) and we had lots of fun also. One of the highlights of the trip was going to a Basque restaurant. We were served "family style" with seven courses. The chef came in special for our group, and we were 12 hungry campers. It was all wonderful starting with a great tasting soup and ending with the best bread pudding ever. I asked Nancy Morgan for a summary of the Healdsburg trip so here is her report: Five rigs went north to the Alexander Valley RV Park in a beautiful setting on the Russian River. It is four miles from the beautiful town of Healdsburg, which has shops, restaurants, and plenty of wineries. The highlight of the trip was a visit to the Ridley Vineyard in the Anderson Valley in Boonville near Mendocino. Jack Ridley, Nancy Morgan's brother, discussed the growing of grapes and the many facets involved such as thinning the vines, watering, pruning and harvesting. He grows mainly pinot noir since the climate is ideal for it with warm to hot days with cool nights and even fog coming from the coast. We enjoyed lunch along with some of Jack's pinot and viognier. Then he accompanied us to two wineries, Phillips Hill and Esterlina. At Phillips Hill we sampled some of the 2012 wine made with grapes from the Ridley Vineyards. At the end of the day we all agreed that our time in Boonville had been wonderful. Some of us also visited the Kastania Winery in Petaluma owned by Linda and Hoot Smith. Linda's cousin, Sonya and Gene Tamplin, live in Four Seasons and the Smiths gave us the red carpet treatment complete with barrel tasting. Everyone liked their Pinot Noir and their Proprietor's Blend. Other activities included visits to various wineries including Schramsberg in Calistoga where we took a cave tour of their 100-year-old winery and also watched the bottling of their sparkling wine. We also visited Chalk Hill Estate Winery and Francis Ford Coppola's winery where much of his movie memorabilia is on display. Jamie reported that the Rodeo was lots of fun, with many of the RVers attending numerous times. They had dinner at Jacko's, which was one of the highlights of the trip. I will report on the Pismo trip in my next article. We are still looking for new RVers. Please join us the second Tuesday of every month in the first section of the Ballroom at the Lodge. Happy birthday to our July babies and happy anniversary to our July brides and grooms! ~ Maddie Meyer CLUBS & GROUPS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2013 31
