You cannot miss this production! If you want a night out to see your friends and neighbors on stage while enjoying some good laughs, mark your calendars now for Saturday, Oct. 23, and Sunday, Oct. 24. If you liked the old Laugh-In show on television, you will most definitely enjoy The Colony's very own Laugh-In team – in addition to the talented dancers, singers, storytellers, skits and so much more. Hosted by our own MCs, George Langham and Greg Hill, it just can't get any better than this! Both performances will be at 7 pm. Ticket information will be in the September Colony News, and there will be flyers in the Clubhouse. Please call me or Carol Strutt (698-0318) if you need additional information. Hurray! The Clubhouse is finally open for business, entertainment, socializing and activities. Your Colony Actors Studio is moving right along to present skits, improv, one-act plays, and eventually, full-length plays to our community. In order to do this, we need all of you who might be interested in acting or behind-the-scene opportunities, such as set design, stage manager, props, lighting, sound, makeup, advertising and poster or ticket designing, to join us in this new adventure in The Colony! You'd be surprised at what talents you have hidden within yourself, so why not give it a try and join in on the fun? Our workshops take place in the Annex on the second and fourth Thursdays of every month at 3 pm. So, mark your calendars and call one of us listed below if you'd like more information, or if you would like to attend our workshops. Sunday, Aug. 8, 5:30 to 8 pm – Auditorium "Isn't there a nice setting close by with sweet lyrical music where you can enjoy a glass of wine and some snacks or a meal with your friends?" After hearing that question a few times, Ron Gentile (piano and vocals) and Rick Rahn (drums) answered, "We can do that!" and The Colony Cabaret was born. As a dictionary might define it, a cabaret provides musical entertainment (by singers, dancers, comedians, etc.) in a relaxed atmosphere for dinner and drinks with friends. The Colony Cabaret began on March 25, 2012, and attempted to embody that definition by (1) playing their renditions of The Great American Songbook for your dancing and listening pleasure, (2) encouraging the audience to bring their own drinks and snacks so there would be no admission fee, and (3) inviting participants to request favorite songs to allow Ron and Rick to play them for or with you. Some programs have celebrated holidays, such as Valentine's, St. Patrick's, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Other themes have included comedy songs and skits (e.g., what if Maria had been sent to be governess to the geriatric community of The Colony instead of the Von Trapp family), or special guest artists like Genteel Voices. Programs take place in the Auditorium either on Saturday or Sunday evenings from 5:30 to 8 pm on the average of every three to four months. The 28th edition, originally scheduled for March 15, 2020, was the victim of the COVID pandemic but has now been rescheduled as noted above. We are so happy to be back together strumming and singing and laughing again after the very long break. We invite anyone who is rusty or would like to learn to play to give us a try. We are all rusty after our long break, so it is an excellent time to learn. For more information, give me a call.
