drama club mystery theater & more Our group, and especially our cast of players that staged and performed in our most recent comedy/thriller "Tomb With A View," is justifiably proud of the results of a lot of hard work in the production of "Tomb." We owe a real debt of appreciation to our Director, Joe Vallely, for taking on a play that is written to run near three hours and re-editing the script to be just as interesting (and funny) in a two hour edition. The audiences loved it, and we loved them as well. They even loved the "prize" for guessing the character in the play that killed the most people. Even though "Dora" never did actually kill anyone in the play (except for a brief mention of a past poisoning), it was her "Mansion Mystery" (eluding to one of her home-made wines) that was the hit of each evening when a very shrewd audience member that had guessed that "Anne" was the character that would register the most "kills" won one of these prized concoctions to add to their wine cellar or collection. It was all in good fun, and that is just what we all had! Now our group will be in a very short three month hiatus to recharge our batteries and then resume our activities in September to plan all of our events for an exciting new year in 2014. If you've been thinking about checking us out as a recipient of your energies in what we in our community have come to know as a very active retirement, please join us at our next monthly business meeting on Tues., Sept. 3, at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. We'd love to meet you and have you meet all of us! Info., Ginger Burris, 845-9685. The Horizon Chamber Players, sponsored by the Drama Club will present their annual summer concert on Sun., Aug. 4, at 2 pm in the Ballroom. The Horizon Chamber Players is lead by violinist Maki Sowash. Unfortunately, the usual cast members Aya and Yukio Sakai and Atsuko are not available this year, but joining Maki instead, are pianists Kaoru Hagishima and Emiko Nakamura. Viennese trained pianist Kaoru had lived and worked in Austria for many years and now lives in Tokyo. She is a professor at Showa conservatory of music, performing often appearing with local orchestras and in solo recitals. Emiko holds a Doctorate degree in German literature and has also managed a career in music, and pharmaceutics. Both ladies are fluent in German, and Emiko also speaks fluent English. The concert program will be a recital for violin and piano, with virtuoso solo pieces for both instruments, pieces by Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Liszt, and Ravel and more. Tickets will go on sale at the Main Clubhouse beginning July 22, from 9 am to 2 pm, Monday through Friday. There is one performance only and seating is limited. A reception will follow the performance at the South Clubhouse and will consist of champagne and substantial hors d' oeuvres. Attendance for the reception is limited to 100. Ticket prices are Concert, $8; Reception, $5. social clubs & groups | sun lakes lifestyles | july 2013 | 17
