| OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2021 | 13 Choral Society By the time this has been published we will have had our first Ocean Hills Chorale rehearsal. We're looking forward to welcoming new chorale members and putting all our talents to good use. There are so many benefits to choral singing. Here's our list for September from the Barbershop Harmony website posted on July 4. • Singing develops the lungs and promotes superior posture. • Singing strengthens concentration and memory. • Singing animates the body, mind and spirit. • Singing is therapeutic both emotionally and physically. • Singing is an ageless enjoyment – you are never too young or too old. We rehearse Tuesday mornings at 10:30 am. We're looking forward to seeing you there. ~ Beverly Taylor Author: Patty Mills - https://www.barbershop.org/the-health- benefits-of-singing We can't believe that summer is over and fall is approaching. We are excited that our first meeting for the year will be on Mon., Sept. 13, in Abravanel Hall. Our "meet and greet" will start at 6:30 pm followed by our meeting starting at 7 pm. Our guest speaker will be Will Reece from AFC Vacations. Through the years, members have enjoyed hearing from AFC, a local leader in affordable vacations, about future planned trips. At the time of writing this article, fully vaccinated people are not required to wear masks in the Clubhouse. However, since the number of COVID cases are unfortunately increasing, this may change; if not, you may feel more comfortable if you mask up for the meeting. PLEASE join us, even if you are not a member! While we are busy planning trips for 2022, we are excited to let you know about three upcoming trips. As soon as we can confirm the details for these two trips, we will publish trip flyers. Until then, please save these dates: • Tues., Oct. 12: La Brea Tar Pits and Museum and lunch in Beverly Hills • Thurs., Dec. 16-- Sightseeing the holiday lights throughout the San Diego area We are delighted that we should be able to kick off 2022 with a GREAT trip to the Rose Bowl Parade on New Year's Day, Jan. 1. We have met our minimum of at least 35 travelers which guarantees our own OHCC bus. We cannot formally confirm the trip until Sept. 10 when paid travelers can no longer cancel. We will be picked up around 4:30 am in our Overflow Parking Lot and driven to the Parade. The bus parks less than one block from where our seats will be. The cost is $235 per person and an additional $5 for non-members. The price includes a Daytripper professional tour guide and bus driver, bottled water and snacks on the bus, reserved grandstand seating, and gratuities for the guide and driver. Please leave a check, made payable to the OH Travel Club, in the Travel Club Envelope at the Clubhouse Front Desk. We look forward to seeing you at our meeting on Mon., Sept. 13! ~ Your Travel Club Board, Judy Harris, Donna Wessel-Graham, Lynn Opelka, Callie Dean, & Judy Buoniconti Travel Club OHSPA Some of you may be asking "what is OHSPA?" OHSPA stands for Ocean Hills Society of Performing Arts, and it has successfully concluded its 29th year in 2019! The incorporators of this village never dreamed that the corporation would remain in existence beyond eight to 10 years! Certainly not for 29 years as we have done and will begin adding another year in 2022! It is a formidable record for an entity that began as a challenge grant presented to a real estate developer who was an aficionado of the arts by a group of homeowners who had purchased property in the development his firm was promoting! We are so very happy that all those years ago, it worked out and today, we are still bringing named entertainment to our community! I want to thank our star donors because without them, we would not be bringing the "top-notch" concerts to our Abravanel Hall! As you can imagine, the costs to bring these concerts today is sometimes overwhelming and we only charge $30 a ticket! AB Hall seats a maximum of 500 people and we have not had a contract near or under $15,000 for several years! THANK YOU, STAR DONORS! Many have asked "what is a star donor?" A star donor gives $500 a year (and much of it is tax deductible because we are a 501© (3) organization) and they may choose their seats as soon as we have the contracts signed. This year, it will be very soon as three contracts have been signed and the fourth one should be signed by the time you are reading this article! We have a great group of concerts for 2022 that you are not going to want to miss. I know you are going to want to save the dates for 2022 so here they are: Feb. 26, May 7, Aug. 13, Nov. 5. If you would like to become a star donor or have any questions about OHSPA, please call Donna Russell (760-945-5558).
