26 | OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2021 | Art Lovers The Front Porch Gallery at 2903 Carlsbad Blvd. is always one of our favorite places to visit. Art Lovers Club member Ernie Pick has a piece in the recent show, Juried Exhibit 2021 which runs until Sept. 11. Ernie's sculpture, The Circle of Life is made of poplar wood which he shaped using heat in the OHCC Woodchucks' workshop. The Front Porch Gallery is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating vibrant, vital art for the community. Another interesting art venue to visit is Barrio Glassworks, a public glassblowing studio and retail gallery. The studio and gallery provide a unique experience and includes an open viewing section for the public, allowing an up-close look at the mesmerizing art of glassblowing (no reservations required). Barrio Glassworks, located at 3060 Roosevelt Street in Carlsbad, features beautifully designed, handmade objects by glass artists from San Diego, Southern California and beyond. They welcome artists at all stages of their careers. With roots in the American studio glass movement, they focus on innovative contemporary work by artists who work with glass in unique and innovative ways. News from Oceanside Museum of Art. OMA's Inaugural Plein Air Festival took place the week of July 24-31. More than 200 artists painted at various locations throughout Oceanside amidst hundreds of onlookers. Among the activities were an art sale, art auction and a juried art exhibition. The juried plein air art exhibition will be on view at Oceanside Museum of Art through Oct. 10. Their "eye" for composition, color balance, and just plain FUN, are evident in the works on exhibit. Prior to entering the Art Studio, take note of the photography featured on the wall just to the right of the entry doors taken at Leo Carrillo Ranch in Carlsbad by Paul Elsberry. Then, in the Art Studio, you'll see colorful photos of flowers, amazing photos of seascapes, intriguing faces from foreign lands, a jumper in mid-flight, and more, Come see the creations of our residents and enjoy the experience of seeing the world through the eyes of talented photographers! Judy Harris and Lainy Vinikow encourage you to participate in future exhibits, whether as a viewer or an artist displaying your creations. We all enjoy the sharing of beauty and the insights we gather. It is with excitement that those of you experienced in stained glass can return to the Craft Room to work on projects. We will continue the same hours: Tuesdays 1 to 3 pm, and Thursdays 10 am to 12:30 pm. I have not set a date for new students but will do so in the near future.
