| OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2021 | 7 Golf Course Renovation & Well Conversion Report By Don Lopez, Golf Course Irrigation Committee Chairman Last month we reconfirmed the lake irrigation method as the most efficient irrigation system for our course. We are now working with Morgan Golf to complete the final lake design. That also necessitates a new construction schedule from Candyl Golf that includes the lake construction and well conversion, along with the renovation of the tees and greens. The replacement of the irrigation system, and the renovation of the tees and greens is progressing nicely now. It looks like we may complete the punch list by Oct. 29, as currently scheduled. The schedule for the lake construction and well conversion will be in addition to this date. When you read the construction schedule on the website, you will see 9/3 as the final for the grassing on the front 9. You would need to add 90 days to that date for the grass to be mature enough to allow golfers on the course. That would translate to sometime in December for playing on the front 9. If you apply the same rule to the back 9, the final grassing is 10/18, therefore you would expect to play on the back 9 by Feb. 1, 2022. Please keep in mind these dates are before we receive the final lake design and the revised construction schedule. I have been very careful in these articles to stay away from dates. We all know construction schedules change. However, we are nearing 80% completion of the renovation, so it is time to discuss them. Also, I have received some requests from residents to give some dates. Remember, there is a construction schedule on the website which is being kept current. There have been some questions by residents living on the golf course, that it appears the work has slowed down on the course. Candyl Golf is now fusing together all the HDPE (high density polyethylene) pipe. This must be done by certified technicians. They are doing this in long runs, so it can all be laid into the trenches at the same time. They don't want open trenches on the course any longer than necessary due to the safety hazard. The other element is the booster pump to supply the irrigation water. That is being installed now. When the pipes are all fused together, the trenches will be opened, the pipes laid into the trenches, then flushed with the water furnished by the booster pump. Then the trenches will be covered, after only having been opened for a short time. This all requires a lot of coordination and work being done at several places simultaneously. You may not be able to see all of this activity from your vantage-point, but it is all happening now. A great deal of work has already been done on the renovation, and now there will be a lot of work starting on the lake construction and the well conversion.
