Our workshops have become such fun and are full of laughs with improvisations and "cold readings" of skits. Picture these! A man sees a woman whom he's sure he knows. He calls out; she turns with a surprised look on her face. Use your imagination as to how both handle the situation. Could they actually know one another? Could this be a long-lost love? Or could he just be a man on the prowl? A woman singer has a conversation with her accompanist after a performance. Was she upset by how he played, as if he were the star, or did he think she was just a diva? Was she full of compliments? Were they actually romantically involved? Again, use your imagination as to how this conversation progressed. And then, there is a cold reading of a skit about Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden Bar & Grill. Well, as you can imagine, it's absolutely hysterical! These examples, along with mirror imaging, participating in moving positions when called to a stop and describing what comes to your mind as to what you were trying to project (i.e., picking apples, strangling someone, romantic embrace), or telling jokes that refer to a person, place or thing, all of which bring out the "actor" in us. These are just a few of the activities that we've done in our workshops, along with diligently looking for skits and full-length plays to produce in the near future. We encourage all of you who would like to participate as an actor, helping backstage, or are interested in scenery or costume design or the technical part of putting on a production to join us. We promise to make it an enjoyable experience! Our workshops are held in the Annex on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 3 pm, and our September workshops will be on the 9th and the 23rd. Reservations are not required – just show up and expect to have a fun afternoon! If you have any questions, please contact me, Chuck Gordon (661-714-3847), Alan Scharf (702-767-3020) or Dona Wurzel (951-325-5378).
