26 | THE COLONY NEWS | SEPTEMBER 2021 | CLUB NEWS Sandy Andert is our featured artist for September. We have not seen Sandy's artwork since August 2019. Sandy is an accomplished artist who has won many First Place Blue Ribbons and Peoples' Choice Awards in pastels and watercolor. She is a past Board member of Gem of the Valley Art Association. They made it possible to hang art in local businesses, and Sandy was one of the artists whose art was hanging in the Chef 's Grille during the pandemic. She is a long-time resident of The Colony and is always willing to share her talent! Thanks, Sandy, for exhibiting your lovely artwork in the Lobby in our beautiful Clubhouse! Artist of the Month Petal Pushers Garden Club By Sylvia Maxwell, 818-667-1766 By Gloria Brosky, 714-292-8507 and Brenda Sindorf, 698-7097 A small but enthusiastic group gathered for our first meeting after the COVID shutdown. Our brainstorming session ended with an exciting list of possible activities that are already in the planning stages. What are some of these budding ideas? An Armstrong Nursery lecture about the best time of year to prune and how to properly prune, proper soil choice for inground and potted plants and how to help our plants survive while conserving water during the drought. A succulent presentation by Linda Powell with the Master Gardeners Program. (In the meantime, if you would like to learn more about succulents, google Debra Lee Baldwin. She has written many books on succulents and has videos as well.) We are shooting for a new date in October for the floral arranging class that was canceled last year. We had planned a Home Garden Tour in 2020. If all goes well, it will be on the calendar in 2022. This will be a nice community share. Speaking of community, we are interested in implementing a community service project. Perhaps our team can assist our fellow neighbors with some gardening chores and tips. Meeting Day and Time Change: Our monthly meetings will now be held in the Annex on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 1 to 3 pm, with the next meeting on Sept. 28. We hope you will be able to join us. If you wish to just come and listen, that is fine with us! Come bloom with us!
