| THE COLONY NEWS | SEPTEMBER 2021 | 27 CLUB NEWS Clogging is a type of folk dance in which the dancer's footwear is used percussively by striking the heel, the toe, or both against the floor to create audible rhythms. A cross between tap dance and line dance. New classes begin Tuesday, Sept. 7, from 4:30 to 6 pm in the Auditorium. The beginner's class is from 4:30 to 5:15 pm, intermediates from 5:15 to 6 pm. Beginners are welcome to stay for the whole class if they wish. The first class is FREE so you can try before you buy. After that, it is $5 per class with a great instructor. All you need is soft leather-bottomed shoes. Clogging is a FUN way to exercise your body and brain. Studies show that dancing is a major tool in the fight against Alzheimer's and dementia. If you're interested, please call me at the number above. Clogging Classes The Colony Bowling League will be off and rolling beginning Thursday, Sept. 9, at 1 pm. If you haven't signed up yet, please show up around 12:30 pm that day and speak to Lynn Ennis, our secretary, or call her at 925-917-1959. We will do our best to get you on a team. We will be bowling until the third week in May of 2022. Our league officers are Hank Fleischer – President, Andy Sciacca – Vice President and Lynn Ennis – Secretary. We are planning on having a catered dinner once a month in the Auditorium. Price will be contingent on the meal served. Bowling A new Colony resident, John Knitter, is a tennis pro and has graciously offered to give free tennis lessons and advice to all tennis players, whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced. John will be on the court every third Saturday at 8 am. There is no need to sign up, just bring a tennis racquet (there are a few in the box by the courts, if you need to borrow one) and meet some fellow tennis players. Did I mention IT'S FREE! John also has private classes for small groups, so if you are new or a longtime resident who would like to play or learn, please come join us on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 8 am. Where else but at The Colony can you get free tennis lessons? Tennis Lessons By Mary Seifert, 951-304-3503 By Hank Fleischer, 714-272-3684 BRIDGE GROUP'S LABOR DAY PARTY! Except for the Friday night and Wednesday afternoon games, Bridge players have been regularly and happily meeting. Those games may be back in action at some point, but at this time only Monday, Tuesday and Thursday games are in full swing. Now it's time to make up for lost time! Our last few scheduled parties had to be canceled, but we will have a make-up party on Labor Day, Sept. 6, at noonish. Bridge players and guests are invited. There is no charge for members; the charge for guests will be $10. Since this is Labor Day, our menu will be appropriate for the occasion. Awards for marathon bridge will be given out. Come and celebrate our newfound freedom with a lovely luncheon! Bridge will follow immediately after lunch. Bridge Group By Ellen Micheli
