By Dennis Murphy, 461-0457 Our July 8 tournament gathered 44 members of the Jack and Jill "family of golfers" for our Random Draw competition. It was played in summer weather conditions, and by tournament's end, we were glad to head for some air conditioning and well- deserved R & R. While we all rested (some napping) after the competition, we were poised to return to the Auditorium to experience the return of our post-tourney banquet relaunch after a 17-month hiatus. The banquet was a booming success, and we all resoundingly agreed the banquet topped off a fun day on the links. With the tournament over and the banquet in full swing, the following were the winning positions for the contest: Winning Teams 1: 47.643 - John and Anita Hoetker, Malcolm Grant and Sherry Roberts 2: 48.248 - Mark Tamayo, Vicki Cornille, Mike and Leigh Tsumura 3: 48.806 - Bob Miller, Marge Person, Leo Pasco and Peggy Clendenen 4: 50.651 - David and Donna MacLagan, Joe Jaramillo and Barbara Crosdale Closest to the Pin # 5: Anita Hoetker – 8'10" / Mark Tamayo – 2'10" #15: Paula Thompson – 6'5" / Mark Tamayo – 6'4" #16: Team #1-B: Randy Meyer, Annette Lalicker, Joe Cwirka and Dottie Hodson – 18'3" Darwin Award Team or Person: Team #18-B: Mark Tamayo, Vicki Cornille, Mike and Leigh Tsumura Issues: 1) Tamayo's name appeared as CTP on #16 when, in fact, the team was second CTP; 2) Mark Tamayo for being a "bad example" for the two new players in our Jack and Jill family. The team failed to complete their score card, thus making the scorekeeper calculate and fill in the final team score. On second thought, the DARWIN will be awarded to MARK TAMAYO alone! Our next contest will take place on Sept. 9 and will be our most popular venue, Regular Scramble. As with all Jack and Jill events, you DO NOT have to be a member of either the Men's or Women's Golf Clubs to play. Just pick up your sticks and join us for the fun and friendly competition. See ya' on the links! | THE COLONY NEWS | SEPTEMBER 2021 | 29 CLUB NEWS Jack & Jill By Judy Lebovitz, 461-0065 Lots of our ladies have not been playing due to the excessive heat, but we still are teeing off at 7:30 am or earlier on Tuesday mornings. We had our July lunch meeting and enjoyed a delicious Cobb salad, perfect for this hot weather. The main event on our agenda is our annual Charity Tournament which will be held on Oct. 5. Everyone is welcome to participate as it will be a scramble and no handicaps are required. Our special charities are Michelle's Place and Hospice of the Valley, and all monies collected that day go to those charities. We will also have placards placed on each tee box honoring friends and/or relatives who have passed or have survived cancer. A lovely luncheon will follow golf, and representatives from each of the charities will attend and talk a little about their charity. If you are interested in joining us that day, please contact Tournament Chair Ann Hartwig (696-5115) or me. It's a very special day, and lots of fun, too! We just had a new member join our group and if you, too, are also interested in joining either the 9-hole or 18-hole group, please contact our Membership Chair, Maureen Herzberg (677-4717). We have a great group of ladies and have lots of fun events. In the meantime, stay cool and well-hydrated, and I look forward to seeing you on the links! Ladies Golf
