Racquet Club Tennis Tournament
By Chuck Gordon
The Colony Racquet Club hosted its first tennis tournament
in many years on Aug. 6 and 7. It was a festive, fun time for
the 20 participants competing in the four matches over the
two-day event. An even greater number of Colony friends
and neighbors looked on, cheering their friends. The winners
of the four matches were Tom McClure, Herb Reynolds, John
Knitter (our resident tennis instructor), and Darrel Rotz and
Jeanne Bender, who also doubles as the Managing Editor of our
monthly Colony News, tied for the lead in their foursome.
The final tournament champions were Tom McClure for the
men, with a total of 22 wins, narrowly edging out John Knitter
with 21. For the ladies, the champion was Jeanne Bender with
17 wins. Congratulations! At the conclusion of the tournament,
the participants and spectators celebrated our long-awaited
event with snacks, orange juice and mimosas. It was a fun time
for all, and we hope to see you on the courts to join us at our
next tournament.
