| THE COLONY NEWS | OCTOBER 2021 | 35 CLUB NEWS Our last practice session was on Thursday, Sept. 9, and we have now started on Mondays about 12:30 or 1 pm. It will be difficult to get new people on teams now, but call Lynn Ennis (925-917-1959) and see if she can do anything. We are well on our way in our league, but since this article has to be in a month early, I don't have any comment on scores or teams yet. We had our league meeting in August. The league officers will stay the same, and rules of the league and conduct were discussed and approved. Andy Sciacca will be responsible for the once-a-month dinners in the Auditorium, so please give him a call if you would like to assist in table decorating. So, here we go, let's hit the pocket and get those spares! (Strikes are nice too!) Bowling Our resident tennis pro and coach, John Knitter, gives free tennis lessons and advice to all tennis players, whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced. John will be on the court every third Saturday at 8 am. There is no need to sign up, just bring a tennis racquet (there are a few in the box by the courts if you need to borrow one) and meet some fellow tennis players. John also has private classes for small groups, so if you are new or a longtime resident who would like to play or learn, please come join us on Saturday, Oct 16, at 8 am. Where else but The Colony can you get free tennis lessons? Tennis Lessons By Hank Fleischer, 714-272-3684 The Racquet Club dinners continue to be the highlight of each month. Sharon Smith and Linda Kight outdid themselves in August with the great variety of Olympic sport history and equipment on display filling the stage. The ambiance was enhanced by The Colony's Kevin Petka, who kept us rocking for hours. The next dinner will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9. The evening pickleball players are filling the courts as they beat the heat and blazing sun Monday through Thursday. Please come out and join us at 6 pm. Open play continues each morning beginning at 7 am. If you are interested in exploring the world of pickleball, free beginner lessons are available at your convenience – morning, afternoon or evening. Please contact me to schedule a lesson. Kudos to Chuck Gordon for an amazing job of hosting the very successful tennis tournament on Aug. 6 and 7. The spectators were treated to a delicious buffet, including mimosas, while the players provided the live sports action. We hope the next tournament will take place in the near future. Tennis lessons are held on the third Saturday of each month at 8 am. Please contact Sharon Boll (399-8271) about lessons, and contact Jeanne Bender (949-295-5412) for information about scheduled games. Tom McClure and Lisa Otten played their way to the top of the August paddle tennis tournament. They received gold medals at the dinner, a well-deserved prize! Thanks to all of the players who continue to participate in the tournaments. The next paddle tennis tournament is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 8. The sign-up sheet will be posted in the display case outside the courts. A ladies' Potluck Luncheon is held in the Clubhouse Lounge on the second Wednesday of each month at 11:30 am. Please mark your calendar and join us on Oct. 13! There is so much fun to be had right here at The Colony! We look forward to seeing you on the courts this month!
