NEW Mental Health Guide from Listos California & The Surgeon General: You already know to have a Go Bag packed if you need to evacuate. Now, take healthy steps for mental wellness with a First Aid Kit for Your Mind. Even as the state's economy recovers, jobs return and schools reopen, some of us may not feel "back to normal" due to the lingering impact of chronic stress during the pandemic. Destructive events like a wildfire or earthquake can also trigger stress and worry, even after they're over. "Some of us may be experiencing mental distress," said Dr. Burke Harris, the state's Surgeon General and an expert in the lifelong impacts of toxic stress. She recommends that we pause to learn about and assess our state of mental wellness. "This guide is a good place to start." The First Aid Kit for Your Mind offers simple, no-cost tools to assess signs of stress and learn what works to feel better. Recommendations include: • Connecting with family and friends for strength and solace • Exercise, healthy food, mental quietness, and good sleep to build resilience • Reaching out for help to speed recovery Behind the scenes, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) Command Staff is busy refining its processes and procedures to respond to an emergency more effectively. Once developed, orientation will be provided to all ERT members. Remember – we are always recruiting for new ERT and support members. If you are interested, please contact us at ohccsert@ gmail.com. Other projects include coordinating with our responding fire departments on the wildland fire evacuation, traffic management plan, and developing a proposal for consideration by the Master Board for a community-wide knox-box system (knox boxes have been described by Scott from CPS is his articles). Stay tuned for additional information in future articles. I want to remind you of our ongoing fundraising effort. Started last month with a goal of $16,320, SERT has received almost $3,000, with donations ranging from $10 to $1,000! Some of you have asked for more detail on where the funds will be used, and that information was happily provided. So, if you are considering donating and would like that information as well, please ask. To donate, please go to the SERT website, then select SERT Club, and Donate To SERT. Remember, 100 percent of the donations are reinvested back into the community in emergency preparedness and response efforts, but we can't do it without your help. A grateful thank you to those who have already contributed. Finally, thanks for reading my monthly articles and providing feedback. I try to include timely information that is of value to the community, and your ideas and suggestions for future topics are certainly welcome. Until next month – please be safe. | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2021 | 5 To help our residents maintain mental well-being, recognize when they need mental health support, and help us receive guidance from diverse resources, SERT's partner, Listos California, has created a First Aid Kit for Your Mind. An electronic version of the Guide can be found by clicking on the link on the SERT Club website Announcement Page at https://certohcc.wixsite.com/sert/ announcments. By President John Slayton, SERT President The financial report for the month of August 2021 was not available for review by the Executive Finance Committee prior to the Open Session Master Board meeting in September. The Executive Finance Committee did convene via Zoom on Aug. 31 to review the July 2021 financial statement in accordance with California State law. The preliminary data provided in the Treasurer's Report in the August edition of OHCC Living magazine was confirmed and validated by the EFC on Aug. 31 and will not be repeated here. The financial condition of the Association is stable at this point. Inflation will present our most significant challenge moving forward. Under budgeted items for 2021 will continue to provide losses that will require adjustments during the next budgeting cycle. Inflation, increased labor costs, goods and services cost increases will all have an impact on our future budgeting. Purchasing policies are being evaluated by an outside consultant to provide guidelines from which staff will operate to ensure that OHCC is receiving the best value for its buck.
