The OHCC Billiards Club held a Cut-Throat pool tournament on
Aug. 26 with 15 members entered. Cut-Throat is a fun game for
three players. Each player is assigned a group of five balls: 1-5, 6-10
or 11-15. The object of the game is to pocket your two opponents'
balls before they sink all of yours. The player with at least one ball
on the table when all opponents' balls are pocketed wins the game.
If the shooter fouls, the opponents each get to re-spot a previously
pocketed ball. This allows a previously eliminated player to get back
in the game.
The tournament had four qualifying rounds after which the top
nine players competed in three semifinal matches. The three winners
went on to the final match. Near the end of the final match, each
player had one ball remaining on the table. Jim Kydd made a long rail
shot and failed to eliminate John Mitchell. Next up was Gary Pelcher
who eliminated Jim. When Gary missed the shot on John's last ball,
John sank Gary's last ball to win the tournament.
Gary was second and Jim was third.
