FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2021 41 The club has screenings on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. We screen films you won't find at the big Cineplexes: documentaries, indie films, foreign films, and other little gems that don't get wide release. Our first monthly screening, on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 6 pm, is the film The Elephant Queen (UK 2019, 1 hr. 36 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "Athena is a mother who will do everything in her power to protect her herd when they are forced to leave their waterhole. This epic journey, narrated by Chiwetel Ejiofor, takes audiences across the African savannah, and into the heart of an elephant family. This is a tale of love, loss, and coming home." This film was postponed from an earlier date. Our second monthly screening, on Sunday, Nov. 28 at 6 pm, is the film Fiddler: A Miracle of Miracles (USA 2019, 1 hr. 37 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "The origin story behind one of Broadway's most beloved musicals, Fiddler on The Roof, and its creative roots in early 1960s New York, when "tradition" was on the wane as gender roles, sexuality, race relations and religion were evolving." All of our screenings are followed by lively discussion about the film; we'd love to have you join us. The Lodge Theater has very limited seating, so if you're interested in our screenings, come early; we hope to see you there. Please note that all films announced are subject to availability. If you have any questions about the Counter Culture Cinema Club or want to recommend a film, please email Micki Rosen at michelesrosen@gmail.com. ~ Micki Rosen Counter Culture Cinema Club Classic Film Group We meet Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 6 pm in The Lodge Theater and will be showing a double feature of two special Christmas stories to get the holiday season started. The first is an episode of The Twilight Zone, a Christmas message from Rodman Edward Serling, creator and head writer. The other is a movie from Director John Ford. "The Night of the Meek" After a derelict Santa Claus is fired on Christmas Eve, he finds a mysterious bag that gives out presents. With this bag he sets out to fulfill his one wish - to see the less fortunate inherit the bounties of Christmas. The "Night of the Meek" is worth watching. The episode reminds its viewers that even when the odds are clearly not in your favor, the Christmas season is one where even the most unbelievable dreams can come true. In the end, "A word to the wise, to all the children of the 20th century, whether their concern be pediatrics or geriatrics, whether they crawl on hands and knees and wear diapers, or walk with a cane and comb their beards. There's a wondrous magic to Christmas, and there's a special power reserved for little people. In short, there's nothing mightier than the meek. And a Merry Christmas to each and all." Rodman Edward Serling, on Dec. 23,1960. 3 Godfathers Four outlaws come to New Jerusalem, a town full of courteous and religious people, to rob the bank. After shooting the president of the bank, only three make it out of town followed by the posse. By the time they get to the second desert watering hole, they find it dry and also find a wagon with a dying mother and a baby. The mother entrusts the care of the child to the three men. When the horses are dead the next morning, the three outlaws have no choice but to try to walk back to New Jerusalem, only two want to take the baby. The American magazine, published in 1889 reminds us that the meaning of Christmas is "to give up one's very self - to think only of others - how to bring the greatest happiness to others - that is the true meaning of Christmas." ~ Paul Plamondon, 4seasonsmoviegroup@ gmail.com
