42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2021 The Book Club selection for Nov. 9 is Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell. Here is a brief description from Amazon.com: "In 1580s England during the Black Plague, a young Latin tutor falls in love with an extraordinary, eccentric young woman in this "exceptional historical novel" (The New Yorker) and best-selling winner of the Women's Prize for Fiction. Agnes is a wild creature who walks her family's land with a falcon on her glove and is known throughout the countryside for her unusual gifts as a healer, understanding plants and potions better than she does people. Once she settles with her husband on Henley Street in Stratford-upon-Avon she becomes a fiercely protective mother and a steadfast, centrifugal force in the life of her young husband, whose career on the London stage is taking off when his beloved young son succumbs to sudden fever. A luminous portrait of a marriage, a shattering evocation of a family ravaged by grief and loss, and a tender and unforgettable re-imagining of a boy whose life has been all but forgotten, and whose name was given to one of the most celebrated plays of all time. Hamnet is mesmerizing, seductive, impossible to put down — a magnificent leap forward from one of our most gifted novelists." Our meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:30 am in the RCN Room 3, and someone volunteers to lead the discussion about the book we have chosen for the month. Veterans Day is universally celebrated with parades and so the park will not compete for participation. This year the city of Beaumont will have their own parade and HOA Veterans and their supporters are encouraged to attend. Details are at The Lodge or at www.beaumontca.gov. We will celebrate Dec. 7 as our Veterans Park Day — details can be found on page 10 of this issue of the Breeze. A special thanks to the Beaumont Police Department and the California Highway Patrol for the escort of our procession led by our Motorcycle and 4x4 Clubs to the Hillside Cemetery in Redlands on Sept. 17 to honor WWII POWs and MIAs who have grave markers there. The flags in the Veterans Park for November are "WWII TV Shows" and "Thanksgiving at the Front." ~ Len Tavernetti, ltavernetti@ hotmail.com Seasoned Solos If you are single and enjoy a variety of activities, then Seasoned Solos just might be the group for you. At each meeting we discuss what is going on in the Inland Empire and plan activities, from local lunches and dinners to excursions to presidential libraries, the Redlands Bowl, Metro Link trips into LA, and the beach train to San Juan Capistrano. There's not much that we won't consider doing. We meet on the first Friday of each month in The Lodge Arts & Crafts Room at 6 pm. For further information, call Joyce at (951) 850-3055. ~ Joyce Olson
