8 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2021 By Mel Zeldin Listening to Four Seasons Beaumont resident Glenn T. King tell so many interesting stories of his military career as a photojournalist is a "wow" experience. From his enlistment in the Air Force in 1971 to his retirement as a master sergeant (military grade E-7) in 1996, Glenn was a key photo and video documentarian of wars and humanitarian efforts, as well as an assistant producer, director, and editor of instructional training films for different Air Force career fields. From all those experiences, he has quite the collection of memorabilia and fascinating stories. Glenn comes from a military family, and since his father had been stationed at the former Norton AFB in San Bernardino, Glenn spent a lot of time in the Inland Empire. After high school, he went to San Bernardino Valley College. The Vietnam War was still ongoing and the likelihood of being drafted in the Army was high, so after his first semester, he enlisted in the Air Force. But this was no ordinary enlistment. His father at that time was stationed at Osan Air Base in Korea, and he, his mother, and siblings got approval to join his father there. So, it was at Osan AB that Glenn was given a pre-oath of enlistment, and then had to fly some 7,000 miles to Lackland AFB in Texas to start his basic training. Once he completed basic training, he was assigned to Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, Texas and trained as a Reprographic Specialist on a variety of printing presses. He had a connection there that gave him the opportunity to be reassigned to the USAF Still Photographic School at Lowry AFB in Denver, whereupon he graduated in the top three in his class. From that training, he had several assignments to various Air Force base photographic laboratories, where he took photographs and processed film in support of pilot training, navigator training, investigations, and a variety of other official photographic needs, including base newspapers. From there, Glenn moved on to the video career field, completing the Television Production Operations School at Lowry AFB. He completed assignments to two of the Air Force's largest television production studios at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth, Texas, and Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Miss. In 1985, he was assigned to his first overseas assignment as a non-commissioned officer (NCO) Air Force Combat Aerial Videographer at Yakota AFB in Japan. His combat-camera unit traveled across the Pacific to document joint military operations for use in operational analyses, lessons-learned training, and intelligence briefings. In 1990, he deployed to Dhahran AB in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. As part of the deployed audio-visual squadron, Glenn was selected by his commander to become one of a very few Glenn T.
