The leaves dance from branch to ground, each a colorful flag without strings or a pole, free to roam. I feel the breeze rich with the aroma of the earth, the keeper of the seeds for the springtime to come." -~ Angela Abraham It is November, the month of Thanksgiving celebrations when families gather to eat turkey, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie. However, in 1621, the menu was different. Sugar supplies had dwindled, potatoes were nonexistent, ovens were not available. Venison and shellfish provided the main course. It was a three-day celebration at the end of a successful harvest. Native Americans attended and diplomacy between the two groups was abundant. Only four wives had survived the trip, therefore, the meal was basically on the shoulders of the men. Fifty colonists attended. It was a young crowd, but there was time for prayers of Thanksgiving. They had survived. The American dream of freedom had planted its roots. So here we are, thankful for having survived the COVID, appreciating our life perhaps a bit more than before, and grateful for its blessings. One of these small blessings is our Library and all it offers. Library Members Only: Two Ways To Request A Book Number 1 - Electronically 1. Go online to the OHCC Library Website 2.
