32 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2021 | Village Vets For our October meeting, our guest speaker was Lori Boody the Executive Director of VANC the Veterans association of North County located in Oceanside. Our members found Lori's talk quite interesting, and she had lots of new information for Veteran's and their families. In 1975 if you passed near Camp Pendleton you would have noticed that there was a Vietnam resettlement camp within the Marine Base. Many Vietnamese later resettled in nearby Orange County. Currently there are eight Afghan resettlement camps set up at Army Installations throughout our Country. There are 67,000 Afghan refugees to be settled in the USA. About 53,000 Afghans are already here and 14,000 are currently in Europe, coming through US Air Bases there. The resettlement is expected to take about six months, with about 5,300 Afghans eventually to be resettled in California. Congress will be considering whether to require women 18 to 26 years old to register for the draft. There are organizations insisting that the government is discriminating against woman, considering them second class citizens, by not including them in the draft. Unfortunately, we won't be seeing our 1st ANGLICO Marines on Veterans Day this year as the entire Company will be off-site for the week. Due to the unforeseen issues created in the past few months, resulting from the resurgence of COVID-19, we are re-evaluating our activities for the remainder of 2021. We will keep our members informed of our plans as soon as we can, through emails and our Bugle Publication. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, there will be no Village Vets meeting in November.
