24 | LIFE IN SOLERA | NOVEMBER 2021 | CLUBS & GROUPS
The Flag Brigade is comprised of a group of Veterans that
volunteer to raise the flags in Solera on certain days throughout the
year. There are 13 days that the flags are raised ranging from MLK
Day in January to Pearl Harbor Day in December. The Brigade meets
at 6 am to raise and/or lower the flags.
The flags are kept up for various amounts of time depending on the
day that they are put up. When they are up, the weather is monitored
to keep the flags from being damaged. If any flags do incur slight
damage, they are repaired and returned to service. If they are judged
to be unrepairable, or are too worn, they will be taken to an American
Legion Post to be retired.
The aim of this program is to remind everyone of the sacrifices
that have been and are made by our active military and veterans to
keep us and our great country safe.
So if you happen to be out early one morning and see someone
putting the flags up, please thank them. They will appreciate it.
