FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2021 41 We gather on the second and fourth Sundays of the month, screening films you won't find at the big Cineplexes: documentaries, indie films, foreign films and other little gems that don't get wide release. Our first monthly screening, on Sunday, Dec. 12 at 6 pm, is the film First Cow (USA 2019, 2 hrs. 3 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "A loner and cook (John Magaro) has traveled west and joined a group of fur trappers in Oregon Territory, though he only finds connection with a Chinese immigrant (Orion Lee). The men collaborate on a business, although its longevity is reliant upon the participation of a wealthy landowner's prized milking cow." Our second monthly screening, on Sunday, Dec. 26 at 6 pm, is the film Paddleton (USA 2019, 1 hr. 29 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "An unlikely friendship between two misfit neighbors becomes an unexpectedly emotional journey when the younger man is diagnosed with terminal cancer." All of our screenings are followed by lively discussion about the film; we'd love to have you join us. The Lodge Theater has very limited seating, so if you're interested in our screenings, come early; we hope to see you there. Please note that all films announced are subject to availability. If you have any questions about the Counter Culture Cinema Club or want to recommend a film, please email Micki Rosen at michelesrosen@gmail. com. ~ Micki Rosen Counter Culture Cinema Club Classic Film Group On Dec. 28 at 6 pm in The Lodge Theater The Classic Film Group is presenting The Muppet Christmas Carol. It's a practically flawless presentation of the Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol. Perhaps the ultimate Christmas flick, it may also be one of the best family-friendly films in cinematic existence. This Disney movie does a wonderful job advocating the importance of kindness, compassion, and generosity for the less fortunate. It is a comedy/drama directed by Brian Henson and starring Michael Caine, Russell Martin, David Rudman, Robin Weaver, Theo Sanders, Raymond Coulthard, Meredith Braun, Steve Whitmire, Frank Oz, Jerry Nelson, Jessica Fox, Steven Mackintosh, Robert Tygner, Dave Goelz, Don Austen. It opens with Ebenezer Scrooge, who despises everything Christmas, as he begrudgingly closes his business for Christmas Eve. He humbugs everyone who wishes him a Merry Christmas as he heads home. Later that night, he's visited by the ghosts of his deceased partners, Jacob and Robert Marley. They bring him the news that he will be visited by three ghosts that very night when the clock strikes one. Soon, a terrified Scrooge is visited by the ghost of Christmas Past who shows him both hopeful and sad memories from his youth. The ghost of Christmas Present gives Scrooge a glimpse into the lives of those around him. Finally, the ghost of Christmas Yet To Come reveals a dark future should Scrooge continue on his selfish path. As dawn breaks on Christmas morning, a shaken but hopeful Scrooge vows to embrace, celebrate, and live the true spirit of Christmas. This is one Christmas movie that should not be missed! The American magazine, published in 1889 (Vol. 28) reminds us that the meaning of Christmas is, "to give up one's very self - to think only of others - how to bring the greatest happiness to others - that is the true meaning of Christmas." ~ Paul Plamondon, 4seasonsmoviegroup@gmail.com "If they would rather die, they'd better do it, and decrease the surplus population."
